93 Ruby Red resale question...
I have an all original 18K mile Ruby Red coupe....well sort of. Last year, some idiot :mad :mad towing a boat clipped the front end of the car causing minimal damage, but require a repaint of the hood and front nose. I had all work done at the dealer, and can honestly say it was a perfect job. There are some VERY minor flaws in the paint (around the front emblem, and around the fog/turn lights), but as I said they are VERY minor and hardly noticeable. Because I am honest guy (really, I am!) I would state this to any prospective buyer if I ever decided to sell (C5???). When I bought the car it was all original (the original owner even still had the original air filter). I took pictures of the damage before it was repaired to show that it really wasn't bad.
My question is this... What, if any has the car depreciated because of this? It is still VERY show worthy, and is all original even down to the tires. Since it still has all the original body panels, is it still considered all original?
Well when you tell people it was in an accident, they assume the worst. They assume that the car has been totalled and rebuilt. Best thing to do it tell any potential buyers when they call about the car, but definately not in any ad. Don't wait until they come and see the car, and then tell them. Some might feel you wasted their time because they are the type that assume the worst. DO tell them on the phone that it was a MINOR accident, and there was no damage to anything but X (X being whatever needed fixing). People appreciate that type of honesty, and I'd certainly consider buying from someone that honest.
If the car has been fixed properly, I don't see any need for the value of the car to drop more than $500.00 max. Most cars get SOME kind of accident sometime or another in its life. Even a little bump from the back requiring new paint on the back bumper won't decrease the value of the car, and it sounds to me like it's that type of very minor accident that wouldn't hurt the car's value much.
Good luck with the sale and keep us posted.
I agree that you really should not worry much about depreciation with such minimal damage. Most Rubies need or have had paint work anyway, so the non original paint job is not a huge issue unless they're a fanatic but most prospective buys aren't. If someone wants a perfect Ruby they need to spend $35K and buy that 15 mile coupe.
My coupe had been in a minor accident before I got it. The previous owner had pictures and it was minor probably requiring the same amout of paint work as yours. The only way (IMHO) it devalues the car is if the repair work was poorly done

Re: 93 Ruby Red resale question... (jreed99)
Thanks for all the replies. It's something I have been concerned about since it happened. What sucks the most about it, I have had only 2 wrecks in the past 20 years that I have been driving. BOTH happened within the first month of owning a car (the other was a Mustang GT), and both weren't my fault. I was sitting still and not even moving when the Vette got clipped by the idiot towing the boat (actually, he was a pretty nice guy, and felt VERY bad about it).
