So what caused it to strip? Were the threads on the new spindle different from those on the nut or what? I would not have expected that to be a problem either as those nuts are usually fairly easy to loosen and tighten since there is so much grease around there.

When I was dis-assembling the nut spun freely until the end of the spindle. It hung up and I used penetrating oil to help get it off. I thought maybe there was some dirt in the threads and cleaned both the nut and spindle. I checked the threads on both the nut and spindle and they appeared to be ok. When I went to put the nut back on it took a few tries to get it started and then it hung up. I tried to get it past that "bad spot" and it didn't work out so well. Apparently the threads were messed up on the spindle. I was lucky to get the nut back off.

Some interior upgrades...
Started yesterday about 1 PM and finished up around 5:30 or so. I'm very happy...the interior really looks a LOT different now.
Old, tired drivers seat...
Side by Side Comparison...both have seat rails installed on them.
Drivers side installed...
From the passenger side...
All done and ready to roll!

mundane then...
did the mundane oil change. then my antenna mast came in, but the tool that came with it from corvette america was a touch too small to remove the nut. so I had to pull the left rear and the inner fender well. then i had to remove the antenna. from the mount removed the nut then had a heck of a time getting the ribbon to retract the antenna completely. finally got it done reinstalled now its working great. would have been 20 to 30 minutes but because the nut socket didn't fit it became a 2 hour job.
