Melting Slicks
Cooling system filter
Aftermarket washer bottle installed
fitting filter and housing
another angle--fitment
connecting hoses
side view
adding insulation (filter gets hot)
added some waterproofing
Fender fitted and final adjustments
Up and running. No leaks!
Another shot (big feet in picture)
Heater core inlet hose is the lower one
Area where filter will be located
With lower fender and WSW reservoir removed. New small WSW jar fits and leaves room above for coolant filter.
Fantastic!
Just did a drain and refill a few days ago, but the suspended rust still shows up. When I bought the car from the second owner three years ago, he told me the dealer flushed the cooling system. However, when I checked the coolant it was still dirty. So I did a drain and refill then. I would rather flush the entire system, but for me it's too lengthy and messy to do at my home.
I did some research on coolant system filters and decided on a Wix unit with a short filter. It can be connected into the feed to the heater core. I pulled off the right side fender extension and the windshield washer reservoir and did some measuring. I decided to replace the factory reservoir with a smaller aftermarket unit that fits below the heater core housing. This leaves enough space for the cooling system filter housing and filter. I plan on cutting the 5/8" heater core inlet hose and connecting the hoses to the filter using two 90 degree fittings. I did a mock up using a cardboard box the same size as the aftermarket washer bottle and above it a short filter and foam block to simulate the housing. Hood closes without any interference and the location of the filter makes it serviceable. Pix are the filter and housing that I ordered. I'll post pix when completed. From what I've read and the video's I've seen on youtube, this filter set up will clear out the fine rust particles and keep the system clean.
Wix24763 coolant filter housing $38
Wix 24069 HD Cooling system filter (shorty) $11
Dorman connector x 2 $12
Audow WSW bottle with pump $20

Well the '89 got a fresh dose of new tires...which it desperately needed, now to save up for the Targa Top retrofit through http://www.corvettetops.com/contact.html and all will be good in the world

Drivers window guide stop
Replaced the broken guide stop on my '93 drivers door window. Fiddly job especially without the special tool to undo the retainer that holds the stop to the window. Made a tool to fit out of an old air valve handle, works like a champ, if I ever have to do the passenger side it will be a breeze!

Have my passenger door panel taken off and working at swapping out the power window motor. I ordered the wrong side motor so I'm waiting for the new motor to arrive - but I hope I never need to do this again... This job is a PIA.

Took a short cruise on a beautiful fall day here in the Hudson Valley NY. Just installed a coolant filter yesterday and I'm happy knowing the more I drive it, the cleaner my cooling system gets. I already see the difference in the lower temperature. Getting all thise small rust particles out once and for all.

Had a Core/Hurst shifter installed on my 96 Lt4. A big difference. Drove for around for another hour on the way home for what may be the last time this year my car is out before that white stuff comes here in the Buffalo NY area.

dkpnkc, if you are actually installing only the motor, be sure to drill & stake the mechanism or that spring will uncoil very fast soon as you remove the motor from it.
I installed motors only into my '88 IROC-Z and had to do this before removing the motors.

Here is the new shifter boot installed with the old one next to it. And the e-brake handle cover not completely installed, I still have to glue it down.
I ordered all of these as well as the shifter **** leather ( which I haven't as of yet installed) from redlinegoods.
It took me a couple of weeks to get the order put in because of the time difference and because I was doing a "custom " design. But after all was finalized it was about 2 1/2 weeks before it showed up. But, they send everything signature required, and I wasn't home when delivery was attempted. Annnnnnd, as luck would have it, Hurricane Florence came through and I couldn't get to the post office for two weeks because the roads were flooded. But overall, I like the quality and its nice to have a little more leather inside.
Short story long...... sorry
