If the chip just brings on the main fan at 160deg F to match your new T-stat then it would be worthy, IMO. The chip I've seen that does this also messes with other parameters, which I do not want done.
What other mods have you done or are planning to do??
Do serious modifications that require chip updates, then get a custom chip, or you're wasting money.
Apart from turning the cooling fan on earlier and delaying torque converter lock up, i noticed no performance gains.
It cost me a lot of money, the other issue is you have to remove the chip when you get someone with a scanner check your car.
The custom settings will be lost if you forget to remove the chip.
spend the money on some long tube headers, that will really wake the L98 up. forget custom of the shelf chips.
Yeah forget the cold air intake, TB spacers and air foils. The '85 ECU is a 1 year model. Once you start doing real beneficial mods you might consider converting to a smarter '86 ECU. As mentioned, LTH's are a good place to start, after that, things start getting expensive as you will have to start modding engine components and getting enough air in to the combustion chamber. No easy or cheap horsepower increasers. You have to decide what your goals and budget are and go from there.
