The clutch in my 1990 is starting to slip.
I am going to replace the clutch but wonder about the flywheel.
Will I be able to reuse the original dual mass flywheel? can they be turned? or should I replace it with a solid aftermarket flywheel?
It depends on the condition of the flywheel. I don't think you can resurface the flywheel the old fashioned way. If it were me I would want to have the dual mass flywheel. Do a little searching about resurfacing and using single mass flywheels.
Can't really turn the dual mass, it has a composite seal that holds a grease packed spring between the two surfaces. Turning could damage that seal and then it's done. You can use some maroon scotchbrite which would help to level out the hotspots.
The DMF should be checked for travel and the seal. Spec tolerance on travel is 32mm. and of course as stated, if that seal is leaking game over.
If your looking for stock driveability, then the extra mass, or heavy steel flywheel is the suggested option. I have heard of there being a countershaft shim that reduces gear rattle, but have also heard that it is only for the blue tags.
