94 instrument panel lighting problem

The display on my 94 is not very bright. The back round orange seems to be correct. Moving the dimmer control has no effect on the brightness.

Any ideas of what may be wrong?

I would say the ambient light sensor in the DIC is either very dirty or just failing. You could clean the lens and shine a very bright LED flashlight at it and anticipate it getting brighter OR if it doesn't remove the DIC and clean the contacts on the back-side OR buy another DIC and either just replace he section of he DIC with the circuitry. The ambient light sensor is in the "TRIP MONITOR" bar of the DIC. Alcohol and a Q-tip, maybe?
