I took a 89 out for a test drive and I don't know if its normal but the car seemed to shift hard during lower rpms.Once I get it on the loop It seemed to shift "right". I told the owner if I could get it checked out by a mechanic before offering anything.

Just a hard shift, like it has a shift kit but only does it on the first gear
My '88 IROC-Z does that from the day I bought it nearly 8yrs ago.
Meanwhile the '88 Vette is much smoother at ligth throttle.
Sounds like the "deal" isn't closed yet so could be a "negotiating" chip.
