I had to get the my 95 smogged today, it is all stock but I was worried after reading all the horror stories. It passed with flying colors, the only thing was the tech couldn't find the evap canister in the rear wheel well. I kept telling him where it was but he didn't want to take the cover off to see it, he said that if it wasn't there it wouldn't pass the pressure test but it did. Now I am good for 2 more years.
Mine is all stock too. 1990 L98 103,500 when I got it inspected last month. Passed here in Ca. with a bad EGR. The techs are not allowed to do any disassembly to inspect the car so he couldn't get a vacuum pump on it. Also the SES would not come on unless the car is under load so it was all good. I've since installed a new one. I have a long way to go per the numbers to fail.
I had an odd problem with the English MOT test last fall. The co emissions were way high. My US car specialist cured it by changing (and flushing) the oil and filter. he reckoned that too much idling outside the house, and too little real driving (c.2000m last year) caused it. Anyone understand why, cos I don't??!!
I am going to be getting a new exhaust for it in the next few month's I am leaning towards the Corsa. I would have liked to put headers on it but they are not legal here. Personally I think that is BS because they shouldn't change how much pollution is going out the back end any. But out here what can you do, at least the weather is nice.
