Got my first vette at 64 ... Im crazy about this 84 cross fired car
Um the 3rd owner and the trans was rebuilt approx 2 years ago
so basically .. the 100 k vette is pretty virgin as far as being screwed with in someones back yard ... the car is a very clean piece
I have had virtually very little problems until very recently
so here and ges is my woes ...
the automatic trans instanly started to shifting crazy
the trans for whatever reason is now shifting from first to high gear in a bout 50 feet from take off .. what the hell is that all about
I tried by diconnecting the the down shift cable at the carbs ( cross fire throttle bodies to see how it would shift with it disconnected
of corse it would shift with a hard thump between first and second
It still bumps from second to a quick 3rd to its highest gear way to quickly
Im looking for some wisdom if possible
Im very trans-fused
In need of do it your self advise ... gotta do my own fixes here since Im on a restricted fixed income here ... I just am gratefull that I heve this awsome 84 C4 ... its my first Vette at 64 years old
have made my income primarily doing restorations on these old hot rods
for over 30 years now .... I love doing restorations on these old hot rods
thank you my Lord for these old hands
please let me know where to start to find this trans gremlin .. where do I start
cheers

The Tv cable is to regulate the fluid pressure, it also affects the shift points per throttle input. It should shift smoothly and short shift at lower rpm, when a lot of throttle is used the shifts will be firmer and at higher rpm. That is why the adjustment is so important, you may have a problem as the transmission should slip a lot withe the cable disconnected. Check the trans fluid level connect the tv cable
(i usually set it so at max throttle the cable has little play) there is a proper way to do it and it will self adjust someone will most likely post that info) Get a transmission shop to check the transmission it may be a valve body issue (perhaps a shift kit fitted)
I have a high performance auto trans and i do not have a shift kit fitted, will go shift smoothly at low rpm around town but shifts hard at full throttle at max rpm. That is how these transmissions are designed to operate to give you smooth shifts at lower throttle general driving around town and firmer shifts at higher rpm when needed.
That is why these tv cables need to be adjusted correctly.
You can ruin a new trans in a few miles if that cable is not fitted.
Hopefully replacing the trans fluid and filter will help, a sign of low trans fluid can show itself when cornering some slip with a thud when pressure is restored.
Does anyone know if this could be an issue? If the wrong one mightve been installed or the whole trans instead of rebuilt replaced? Of course if it just started out of nowhere it isnt anything like that I guess, but...

Best the trans fluid is checked be a good idea to replace the trans fluid in case a previous owner has used the wrong fluid. Then if it's still not right get an expert to diagnose the fault, seems to point to the lever inside the transmission that the TV cable is attached to. It should slip with the TV cable disconnected and have short shifting with a lot of slip between upshifts.

guess im remembering my 60's and 70's camero,s and
edit:
connect the TV cable at his bracket
push the D shaped button, pull all the way the cable to the windshield, release the D shaped hold button and rotate the TB bracket to full wide open throttle, you'll hear a ratcheting noise coming from the TV cable, release the TB ,done
if you want learn more deeply about TV cable read this

we talk about the "GOVERNOR" here what it is:
governor valve may be stuck or may be a worn out gear
it's located here in tail housing of 700r4

you can drop it leaving the trans as is
