I have had no problems with my car since I bought it 2 years ago. All of a sudden, the temp goes up to near 260 degrees today. I checked it when I got home and it appears the aux fan is not working. Also, the main fan runs but it cuts off when I cut the key off, even though the temp is pegged. Shouldn't it run until the temp gets below set point?
Thanks for the info. My problem is that the car ran no hotter than 190-195 all of last summer. I wonder if I have a thermostat, water pump, or fan problem.
No, I checked the radiator and condenser, and they are both super clean. I switched the relays and the primary fan works in both relays. The aux fan doesn't work in either. Probably because the pcm isn't telling it to run.

All fans (primary and secondary) cut off when the ignition is turned to the off position.

also in my 95 when the AC is turned on both fans run by default but I'm not sure that it works the same way in 94.
It wouldn't do much good for the fans to run when the engine is turned off due to the water pump not running...the water is not going to circulate. Best bet when you stop the car is to open the hood and leave it open for an hour or so.
Later when the car has fully cooled off check and make sure that there is sufficient coolant in the expansion tank. Also check to see that neither radiator hose is soft or collapsed.

A lot of cars have fans that run after the car is off. They run for a minute or two then cut off. But anyways, I tested both fans by making them run and the aux fan is shot. Gets real hot real quick, and it barely runs. I will replace it and see if thats the only problem I have. Hopefully thats it. Thanks guys. I will repost after I test out the new fan.
Problem solved!! After pondering all the stuff it could be, I finally realized what it was. When the auxiliary fan went south it started to draw high amps which blew the maxi-fuse. I realized this after I wired the fan straight to the battery to see if it would run. The wires immediately got hot, which told me it was drawing high amps. Dummy. I replaced the Maxi-fuse and the new fan motor runs like a champ, and the car runs cool like it did before. Awesome!!
Also, If anyone else needs a new fan motor, all the major parts houses sell the motor by itself for like $35.00. Its super easy to swap the motor. I'm saying this because I tried to find a replacement fan assembly, and all I could find was stuff on ebay for over $100. The aux fan was real easy to remove from the car and real easy to replace.

I have a '93 LT1 and was wondering after you replaced the fuse and fan motor do BOTH fans now turn on when the A/C is running? Which side of the car is the auxilary fan on? It appears that the fan on the passenger side (right) of my car is not working. Thanks for the info

Ozzstar, the aux fan is the fan on the passenger side. If both fans don't turn on while the ac is running, switch out the fan relays(located on left side the radiator shroud)and see if the passenger side fan turns on.
