Default Battery Compartment Bolt

Does anyone know the part number and or source for two top-most torx bolts for the battery panel / fender (see 'B' in first pic below)? They are not the pointed, machine-type screws use in the rest of the inner fender well. They have a flat tapered end with finer threads.

M6.3X1.81 is what I always thought was there and of course the head is a T-30 Torx maybe. If the u-nuts that are on the fender panel are original then that's what I believe you should find. Now if someone has had the panels off and used conventional M6X1.0 u-nuts then they likely have changed the bolts to be M6X1.0. Who knows maybe someone has used conventional USS hardware at some point through the tears. Anything is possible. Try an M6X1.0 nut and if it threads onto the fastener you have I'd think they've been replaced.

I've taken some apart that were actually only attached with M4.3 hardware.

I also thought there would have been no dog-point on them.

I have part numbers for what I believe should be there for both screws and u-nuts if you would like those.

What year is this car?

Thanks for the input. The car is a '93 LT1 Coupe. The bolt in the picture came off it. I'm just missing one. The U-nuts appear original and the single bolt in the picture works with any of the holes. Appreciate if you have a part number.

Thanks,
Eric

GM 11508762 is M6.3X1.81X20 T30 with a 17mm washer on it, GM 12338098 is M6.3X1.81X25 and I'm not sure of the washer size. Davies seems to have both and the first is still available from GM but would likely come in a quantity of 10 or 20 so that's no good. Neither of these part numbers will have the dog point though. If your u-nut has threads in it then these won't work. These are meant to be somewhat of a self tapping and it's not machine screw. I looked and I don't have any.

Here's the link to the Davies product:

http://corvetteparts.com/c4/catalog/fender

I'd try the first number at local dealers first since your in a metropolitan area and next I might try a WTB in the CF "parts section". If I had one I would have just sent it.

Your nut needs to look like this for the part numbers I gave you to work:

http://shop.northlandfasteners.com/N...m1plqscsfapp04

GM 11514290 is the correct number for the part numbers I gave you. I supplied this so you could see what I meant.

I replaced one of mine from one of the big Corvette parts vendors (Eckler's or Mid America). Check their catalogs. The one I got was stainless or chromed (I don't remember which), not black like the original parts.

Did your nut look like the image that I posted? Only curious.

In '78 I recall repairing an "anniversary" car with I believe less miles than yours that certainly I believe should have been a total loss. The numbers after the repair certainly indicated so but reparability "thresholds" didn't exist at the time.

Here's mine. Not stainless, as my magnetic pickup tool sticks to it:

The weird discoloration in the center of the head appears to be a photographic artifact because the bolt itself looks uniformly shiny silver.

That is what is expected but the OP posted a snapshot of a "dog point" that generally only appears on a machine bolt and if his NUT wasn't as the link I supplied then the bolt/screw in your snapshot would be considered a "no fit".

This nut is essentially what is expected for a screw like your snapshot:

A machine screw/bolt with a dog point generally hints a u-nut similar to this which would make the screw you posted and what I mentioned a "no fit". Could it be "forced"? Likely.

The top two u-nuts in my '96 GS are definitely of the second design.

Then I'd think that the screw is going to be a standard metric thread vs. tapping. Try a regular machine screw in your nut. It should either thread very easily or be a no-fit. Try an M6X1.0 first or just take a good screw/bolt to the hardware and check there for fit. If you've a screw-pitch gage you'd be all set but most don't have. If you have a set of metric taps/dies there could be one in the package.

I have a couple M6X1.0 but I'd think the ones I have are longer than needed. Your threads looked coarser than M6X1.0 but maybe you had resized the image or something.

I determined the proper 3 bolts are GM OEM No. 21094240, M6 x 1.0 x 18.5mm (in Black) with dog point.

Thanks!
