As mentioned, the cost of insurance will be very high, but by putting a Corvette on your parent's policy, that can help lower your share of the premium costs. It can also help the premium amount to have the policy show that you are not the primary driver.
Drive a Corette to school every day? Have you thought that other students may get jealous and take it out on the car? Scratches, busted windows, graffiti, let the air out of tires, slash them??? And it will only take one time "showing off" to have school authorities banning the car from school property. Then there are those pesky blue and red lights you might see one day in the rear view mirror....
And operating costs on a Corvette can be high. It will need premium gas and around town, don't expect Toyota-like gas mileage. Stuff breaks or wears out. Do you have auto repair skills that will help you to work on the car? If not, consider taking a auto shop class at school. Having basic knowledge and skills to work on cars is a big help regardless of the make and model car you wind up with.
Frankly, you should go with a car that is relatively cheap to insure and economic to drive. I just don't think a Corvette will be a good choice right now.
My daughter is 16 and just got her first Vette. It's a 1987. I was okay with it because she had been driving my 79 and 95 for the past 18 months and was familiar with the blind spots and how they handle and brake. Especially in the rain.
The car is in her name and the insurance is $140 per month.
One thing to remember is that cops aren't likely to give you a break for traffic infractions when they see a teenage kid driving a Corvette. Be careful and responsible.
I'm 23 and I can say wholeheartedly no way in hell a c4 could have been my first car at 16... Its a money pit even though I work 30-50 hrs a week. I'm no mechanic either but i'm not saying not too get it. I mean if you a mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection and your parents can shell out 10.5k-14k for one that's worth it then more power to you... Also make sure they can give you the occasional 500-2k for whatever parts or problems may occurr
I'm 24 now, have full coverage on my 93 and pay $70/month. In comparison I also have a 2013 F150 and full coverage on it is also $70/month
i'm 23 pay about 79 a month for full coverage on my 35th so that sounds about right... I bet you at 16-17 insurance on a c4 woulda easily been 250-300 a month
