Default 1996 automatic climate control issue - assist needed

Hello everyone from the great North East. I just bought a 96 CE and I have a few little issues to resolve. The biggest and first thing is the Auto Climate Control.

The up button (hotter) on the heat does not work. The down but (colder) works just fine. Every other button and light works as it should. I believe this is because it is either dirty or decayed due to lack of use as the car only has 25K miles.

1. Does anyone sell a rebuild kit?
2. If there are no rebuild kits is there anyone that sells the module?
3. Is there a tutorial on how to remove the dash and take apart the climate unit?
4. Any opinions on the best repair manual for this car and where to buy it?

I am fairly tech savvy and this is not outside of my comfort zone, but I'd rather learn from some else's trench warfare battle than create a new one.

I have placed this one fix for this car on my highest level. Everything else is optional in my opinion. Must have heat especially in Maine.

Thanks for reading. Looking forward to replies.

Chuck

I need to remove the climate control unit on the Vette I just purchased due to a similar problem that you are having. There is a good write up here on the forum on how to remove the unit, take it apart and clean the contacts behind the buttons. Apparently this solves the problem most times and the unit works fine. No need to pay $200 for a rebuilt unit if you can simply clean the contacts yourself. Good luck

The basic procedure is to take it apart and clean the pushbutton switch contacts on the PC board with contact cleaner.

Do you have a link to the tear down and cleaning procedure? I have done multiple searches and have come up empty. I'll admit my search kung fu is not what it used to be.
