I am replacing the console piece that holds the gear shift, window switches and the seat switches. On the bottom there are speed nuts crimped on to plastic posts to accept the screws that hold on the gear shift boot and the gear indicator. The new piece did not come with these. Where can I get them, and is there a crimping tool you need to put them on?
Those nuts are no longer available... finding replacements are scarce as hens teeth. There are a few loose nuts @ $10 a piece at Tony's Corvette Shop.
After I picked myself off the ground... resulted to reuse the original pressed in nuts off the old piece. Will take patience and a few scewdrivers to carefully press and lift.
Many choice words and frustrations later... one will be awarded. Ned the Patience of Yoda.

Thanks guys! I was afraid of that as I had never seen these before. I have the new carpet in, and now am working on lock actuators in both doors before putting on new door panels. Then the dash goes back together. Car looks great so far, and my two sons are doing a lot of the work!

I made wood plugs and epoxied them in the holes. Then used small screws into the wood

TY!
I recently replaced my center console cover and also could not locate any of the on-serts - what I did was found some inserts at the local hardware store that accepted 6-32 screws - final result looked cleaner than the factory onserts and is holding great
If you don't want to keep the old piece you can destroy the plastic standoffs and then pick the bits and pieces out of the press-on nuts and put them on the new piece.

What kind of inserts? What do the look like? Expanding anchors?
I like the wood and epoxy ideas, but want to stay as original as possible. I have Friday off to start on the console. I need to replace the headlight **** and stem as well, two door lock actuators and switches, and then button up the interior. Pics to come!

I will try to get you a picture of the insert or even part # - I bought them from Menards for like $2 a piece
I dropped by Menards this morning - the inserts are made by Midwest Fastener and the part # is 84371 - it is brass and called a wood insert and the cost was 49 cents a piece
