My wife believes that I am abnormal because of my love for cars. We've been married for almost 22 years and have owned 20 different cars in that amount of time. I don't think that is excessive considering how much I look around the lots at cars and how much I think about them. I guess part of it is that I love to drive. My dream is take a couple of weeks off and drive coast to coast.
I also get bored easily and usually get the itch to get a different car after about a year and a half of ownership. I'm now looking for something to replace my 93 Ruby. Either a newer Corvette or another performance car. This seems to drive her towards the edge of insanity.
It's not I'm looking at cars we can't afford or anything. And I've never purchased a car that has put us in financial straits. I don't believe in getting into a lot of debt and would never put family finances at risk for an automobile.
My wife doesn't know anybody personally, besides my Dad and Uncle, that thinks about and has owned as many cars as me. The people she knows at work are mainly accountant types, who, from my experience, are much more conservative as far as cars go. They've usually driven their cars 5 years or more and when it's time to buy, they usually end up with a Taurus, Camry, Accord, etc. Therefore, like the subject line says, she thinks I am abnormal.
I think from reading the forum that there are others like me, or even more so.
So how about it? How many like-minded people do we have here. Or am I just a freak who needs to get a life? I'm still going to buy a car, no matter what she says, like I always have. But I just want to show her there are people out there just like me.
I'm with you Buddy! I have literally hundreds of Vette models, posters, books, videos, magazines and just about everything you could ever think of that has the name Corvette on it. My wife thinks I'm a little nuts too but she figures it is better than a drug habit :yesnod: Are you abnormal? Maybe among her friends you are but when you are here with these like minded friends (and there is alot of them) You are completely normal. Tell her your not a quack, She jsut hasn't met anybody else like you.
You are perfectly normal. Do you think all the car makers including Caddillac would be making high performance cars if the market did not exist for it.
There are plenty of people like us out there. Joins some car clubs and you will see how many there are. There are 35,000 forum members right now. That's just the CorvetteForum. They are plenty of other web sites and car clubs geared toward car guys and by the way girls also. This is not just a guy thing.
Does your wife knit? How many people do we all know that actually do knitting. I don't know any. Does that make them abnormal. I don't think so. It's just what they like to do and enjoy in life and enjoy it very much.
If she ever opens up her mind , she may actually enjoy going on corvette cruises and things.
I guess it would depend on what a person's definition of normal is. I love cars too (however.... I know I'm  ....I told my wife when we got married there was insanity in my family... I didn't tell her it was me!)... but when I find one I REALLY like, I keep it until the wheels fall off.
Just tell her you are continuing your never-ending quest to find the perfect vehicle that is worthy to transport someone of her rare beauty :D HMMmm
maybe that's why I'm divorced

define normal..........
Do you know anyone just like you? Not likely! We are all cut from unique molds...that's what makes us great...our differences! Be thankful you are who you are...the person she married. If you keep your family in mind at all times then you probably can't go too wrong. :yesnod:

First of all, lets clear up the "accountant" stereotype. I'm an accountant and have owned in excess of 20 cars in 25 years. My wife also thinks I'm crazy. Cars are probably the single most thing I think about and discuss all day long. I watch Speed Channel every time I sit down in front of the TV. Suffice it to say, you are not abnormal. Your wife, my wife and everyone else who doesn't understand us is abnormal. As long as you are staying within your means and not hurting anyone, follow your passion.

You are like what, the 1% of all accounts that are into cars. :D
