Default Ain't Nothing Wrong With A C4!

So a bunch of us took a little drive up the mountain to Big Bear today. All C6's including a ZR1, one C5 and my good old C4.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/sout...post1587196169

So all those new cars are really nice but my 18 year old car has no trouble keeping up and hanging with them all. Now if we were at the track it would be a different story but for what I use the car for it works great.

I'm going to do some minor mods (exhaust, shifter, etc) but I'm pretty happy with the car especially considering what I paid for it. Heck, that ZR1 cost more than 10 times what I have into mine!

If I won the lottery I'd buy a new one but but until then I'll just be happy with the good old C4.

That's the spirit. Right after I bought my '88, I stopped and texted my son to tell him that the ride home was worth the money. At that time, I figured it was probably as inexpensive as it would ever be as long as long as I could do the maintenance to keep it in decent shape.

As the current owner of a C4 and C7 I tell you the C4 is a blast to drive. Yes I love my C7 and the C4 both. It's like having two children. Each has their own special personality and things you become endeared with. There are days when I honestly am torn which one I want to drive.
Yea, the C4, ain't nothin' wrong with it!!!!!!!

I agree completely! It's just like fishing, you don't have to decimate the population nor catch the biggest fish. It's just being out there in YOUR car and having fun on the trip. My friend, you have the right attitude!!

Yep, these cars will accelerate and hold the road quite well and are a blast to drive agressively.

After I got my '88 in 2000 I was on a few local cruizes through the twisties and easily kept up with the (then) top C5s.

Excellent topic! And, I'm not surprised.

So many times people get caught up in statistical stuff that probably doesn't mean a whit to 90% of the Corvette drivers, regardless of which "C" they're driving. I believe (from observation) the capabilities of the Corvette (you pick the "C") exceeds the level most of the bench racers have to begin with. Only those that compete - especially on a road course - can draw distinctions between the C4 - C7s especially.

Only accomplished/skilled Corvette drivers can appreciate the difference. Certainly, in a group tour through some twisties on public roads, the capability of any C4 exceeds that required to have fun and keep up with the group.

Most of the bashing of 'this or that' vintage is done by people that have no real knowledge of what they speak. And, in the right hands the C4 is capable of waxing (I'd guess) the majority of the "motor mouths" owning newer vintages. They let the car rags speak for them

So, totally with the OP. Corvettes are a blast to drive, no mater what vintage.

As the owner of a 2010 Grand Sport and now a 1992 car that will soon have z07 suspension, I would have to agree in sentiment. There's no doubt my GS is better in every way than my C4 (expect price!), but the C4 is still a great car.

No it doesnt have thr fancy features. No the car is nowhere near as fast. No it doesn't get stares. But the C4 is still fun to drive, and its not a car I have to worry about bad things happening to.

It can still outrun most cars. It can still carve up corners. It can still make great engine sounds. It can still take the roof off and be open air. Its a great car all things considered, and at a heck of a value.

All of this x100!
Love my C4, so fun and satisfying to drive, such timeless styling.
I feel so lucky to own a clean one with low miles.

Just got back from a milk and bread run. And I got another compliment on my '86. I seem to get a lot, although there's nothing outstanding about my Vette. What matters is that I feel like a million bucks driving it.

It's not so easy to be the "fastest and baddest" plus you need really deep pockets.......and there is always the "new sheriff in town".

The capabilities of the C4 are so much over the top of what most Corvette drivers are capable of appreciating anyway that the advancements afforded by newer Vettes is wasted on most of their drivers as well.

I can drive mine to the limits of my capabilities and have a blast doing it. And, I love the looks of it too! That's all that matters to me!

My C4 is faster than my C6Z06 by over a second in the quarter.
