I own a 1987 Corvette, and been having some problems with it. I put the key in and turn it and the motor doesn't turn over. All the lights pop up and the red battery icon pops up. My buddy told me it might be the key and that I should take it to a locksmith. Has anyone had the same issues? If so your help would be deeply appreciated.

Get some rubbing alcohol and soak down the metal part of the key. Jam it in and out of the ignition switch a few times, wet it down some more then do it again. Sometimes this cleans the crud out of the switch and helps.
If this works then you are darn lucky though.
You really need to purchase a Field Service Manual (FSM) and work through the "no start" flowchart though. Otherwise you are just guessing at the solution. I no longer have an 87 but when mine had the same problem I found out it had a bad VATS module in the dash. I was able to purchase a good used one from www.vette2vette.com
