Default Engine Cleaning Advice

My son and I have been working hard to get my 25 year old corvette's engine show ready. It has less than 80,000 original miles. We are to the point there are areas we just can't get clean particularly around the shocks, the hood itself underneath and all areas viewed from looking down through the engine compartment. I'm looking for advice on how to clean those tough areas. Anyone a fan of steam cleaning or can you recommend a good degreaser that can be sprayed and then washed off with a garden hose? Thx in advance!

I recently used a gasoline powered power washer on my 91. It worked great with the soap that came with the washer. I put a plastic bag over the distributor and alternator. I mostly concentrated on the front of the engine, frame and suspension.
I would not try this on an LT1/LT4 though as the Optispark could get wet and cost you a bunch of money.

Mine is an 89. I've been reading numerous reviews and came across Advance Auto Engine degreaser and it had pretty positive results. I may try that since I don't have a pressure washer.

I tried a few degreasers/ even carb cleaner but it took a pressure washer to really get and then not all..but left areas small enough to clean up..you can spend a lot on degreasers etc....not really worth it......
