Default Jacking up a Vette

I took my 91 to Discount Tire to have a tire removed. They told me that prior to jacking up the car the rear lid, and doors must be opened and the targa roof removed to avoid damage to the car because of the fiber glass body. Were they correct?

I heard this rumor before, it is false!! The things like CLOSED doors, targa, give the car structural rigidness!!! Take you car somewhere else for service.

They did the same thing to me. Wouldn't listen to the fact that the targa adds structural support to the chassis. They said it was corporate policy and wouldn't budge. I took one of their floor jacks and jacked up one front corner of the car till it balanced on one rear wheel and the jack with 3 tires dangling. I then opened and closed the driver door with no problems and let the car back down. NO GO...they still wouldn't go for it. "Corporate says this, the boss said we have to".......... frustrating!

I smell BS. I just had four new tires put on at a Discount Tire and they didn't mention this or even do it.

Step 1: jack up Vette

Step 2: remove wheels and tires from Vette

Step 3: put wheels and tires in the back of your truck and drive to Discount Tire

Step 4: Discount Tire performs service without having any opportunity to **** up your Vette

with this statement completely...If your car isn't at there store , they can't screw up anything on it...I always just take the wheels to the dealers instead of the whole car..I don't want these people anywhere near my Vette........WW

After arguing with these morons about it, then they tried to run the lift up under the floor pans. Luckily I saw that they were about to ****-up and stopped them. Now I take the wheels only in the bed of my Son's truck. The Vette stays in the garage on stands!
