Get it fitted by a professional or get the 85 shop manual and know what wiring to connect it to, have not had any problems with the immobiliser it does the usual starter interrupt and has a remote fob to unlock or lock the car with rear hatch unlock on the fob as well.
It is also auto arming (again for insurance purposes) so if you forget to turn the immobiliser on it will auto arm.
Is all good and you do not need to remove the GM system.

Leave it and use the new alarm system, that is what i did have a keyless entry immobiliser. The original security system doesn't activate unless you lock the doors with a door open, all good and had to have an immobiliser for insurance purposes as the 84 and 85 did not have the vats system with chip in the key.
