Default sun visors

I have went through the threads and did a search for replacement visors for my 91. found the OEM replacement, however don't care for the stock cloth on them and the way the "wings" seem to flap and fold down. I read sometime back about someone here on the threads that made a stiffer visor any help wouldm be much welcomed.

The wings don't flap unless the cardboard within is broken.

Do you have the lighted mirror visors?

My visors are in excellent shape except for the flapping. Any cure for "The Flap"?

When the fabric is in good condition one standard "cure" for floppy ears is to slit the fabric and slide a section of venetion blind in under the cardboard.

The cure for my prior '88 was to make new cardboard and recover the visors with new fabric. It was a pita to get the mirrors back into their cur-outs...
The recovered visors held up well for >10yrs and I was careful to not bend the ears when using them.

Just came across this looking through parts websites/catalogs. someone is making repros with a heavier vinyl cover on it(supposed to hold up better) Dont believe it comes with the mirror. I'm sorry I cant remember who it was, I've been through so many catalogs/ web sites in the past week they have all blended together in my pea brain. Pretty sure it was one of the larger, well known outfits.

Two years ago I put one paper binder clip on each visor. I centered it on the crease for the floppy ear. I then removed the silver arms. It is virtually unnoticeable. It only took a few seconds. And the ears don't flop anymore. It cost nothing as we have a lot of them around the house - used a lot during high school and college by the kids and wife at work. I believe I used a medium size. Here's a link to what I am talking about -

You can use them as a temporary (or permanent) fix until you decide which way to go.

For $115 I bought repro visors that look identical to stock. No home made visor I have ever seen looked like anything but crap.

Default Visors

Was planning on changing out mine over the weekend. Those pushnuts are a bear to try and get off (haven't found the right combination yet). Guessing I may have to get a cutoff wheel for the dremel tool and have a go at the pushnut with that can see what happens. It's too tight to even get anything under it for now.

Looked at mine over the past weekend(90 vert). Both visors have the lighted mirror, and the fabric has pulled away from the bottom of the mirror, I guess because thats where the wind hits it when the top is down(?) I'm thinking I can fix it by removing the mirror, stretching the fabric back behind the mirror location and tacking down with a spray adhesive, then reinstalling mirror over the top of patch. If that dosn't work there always repro's!

I used a very small flat-blade to start the nut rotating CCW.
Then I used very long thin-nosed plyers to rotate the nut up off the shaft, using caution when the nut releases and the spring wants to "take off".

The replacement visors I got suck. Zip had some that looked exactly like the originals and when I ordered them, they sent me one, the other side was backordered. I installed the one they sent me. That was last November. I checked with them weekly on their website, it kept saying "expected ship date in two weeks" or something similar, called them a couple of times every few weeks, they said they didn't know when they would get any in. Originally offered for me to send the other one back but it was already installed. Finally in March I found what looked like a match to the one from Zip on ebay and ordered it. It was one of the cheap knock offs and didn't look anything like the pictures. I got mad and tossed it, my bad, now I am 160 bucks into the sunvisors and still don't have a matching pair. Just checked Zips website again, says theyre still on backorder and should ship in 7-10 days..... really? been 8 months?

Also, installed the one from Zip that they did send me, and its longer than the original, when you go to flip it down it hits the rearview mirror.

There is a spring under a cap under the push nut. You can push down on the cap to give yourself some room to work.
