I am looking at a 1984 which seems to have some problems I hope someone can explain to me.
1. the digital dash has a problem some of it lights up the rest does not I'm told it also blinks on and off.
2. When you turn on the heat or air nothing happens no fan nothing.
3. the radio turns on but there is no sound.
I have not purchase the car yet and can't check out things like a blown fuse, because the dealer is selling it cheap he does not want to put any time in it. Can anyone explain what the problem might be so I can make a decision on the purchase. Thank You George

When I bought my '84, it was definitely in N227GB's second category! After some serious "tinkering", I'm having a ton of fun with it!! How are your "tinker" skills?
My 84 Vette, starting with a fully charged battery and new alternator, will only show a maximum of 13.4 volts on the dash voltmeter which steadily drops throughout the day as I am driving it until it gets down around 12.4 volts whereupon it dies and will not restart. I have been through 2 new batteries and 2 new alternators with no change so I know that the problem does not exist with this part of the charging circuit. Someone suggested that this could be a problem with the charging wire off of my alternator and possibly a fusible link or the excitation wire to the alternator. Can anyone tell me how to find the actual problem?
Thanx

Yes. But why don't you start a new thread about your issue and we can diagnose it there, rather than "hijacking" this gentleman's thread?
First, let me apologize for "HIJACKING" this genleman's thread! Your calloused, condescending reply suggested that there was intent to do this. I assure you there was not! It was truly a sin of ignorance. A thousand apologies. Good grief there is always ONE in every crowd! You might have noticed that I am a "junior" member and this was my first post. Forgive me if I didn't understand that a thread titled "84 Vette Problems" was a private discussion about buying an old corvette ONLY. I did post this same question on some other threads and got three good, helpful replys instead of a smart-a## reply. My guess is that although you are a "senior" member you are probably not good for much else smart-a## replys. It is easy to be a brave wise guy long distance under the anonymity of the web. By the way if you are going to have me banned from this site for this reply, go right ahead. If most members are a-holes like you, I don't want to waste any more of my time here!

I just happen to own an 84 also, so after two years of ownership I am beginning to know this car and its gremlins inside and out. By no means am I a true "Senior" member with my 155 posts, but I have been around this board for a few years. And I will tell you that just about every member is here to help you, and remembers what it was like to be new to Corvettes and to this forum. The response recommending that you start a new thread was not intended to be smart- a**ed, but rather to let you know how to get your question answered. It is just normal forum "etiquette", not only here, but on pretty much every internet forum. So lighten up a little, and I am sure you will find plenty of people here to help you, and a LOT of useful information. But calling people a-holes and going on a rant is quite frankly a little out of line... Just some advice from one of the good guys that gets a lot of information here from a lot of the other good guys on this forum.

^This^ was 100% right on the money. My original post to you had no ill intent what soever. Now, onto your more recent, and off topic post...

For all the time you wasted typing ^that^ pile of horse dung, you could have started an appropriate thread of your own, where you'd likely get good help from a "senior member" who has owned a CFI car for years...such as myself. Instead you write a novel of immaturity and call names. Good move, nooB.
As for all I contribute, I suggest that you do a search of my posts and see for yourself. As a junior member who has quickly proven to me, to be a jack *** (since you started w/the name calling), I'll be sure to remember to avoid wasting my time helping you in the future. Welcome to the Corvette Forums...."smart a##". Now, go read the forum rules.
