Fellas, The rear carpets in my 90 coupe are in great shape but have faded a bit in color over the years. Have any of you used black dye to make the color look more like new and how were the results if it was done? I really would like to try this on my Vette.

You just need to be very careful with the dye that you select to use. Nylon carpet requires a pretty damn hot application to take. I've done many but years ago and with success. Anything short of "the right stuff" will likely only frustrate you.
I don't know that the appropriate acid based dye could be just applied by spray from a bottle or not. Technology has certainly changed. With the carpets out of the car I believe it's very doable, there's likely even detailing services that offer up the correct application techniques required.
What type of "dye" are you talking about? The aerosol cans like spray paint? It takes some work and can still give less than great results. I'm assuming your carpet is originally black? If it wasn't, forget the spray can stuff, IMHO.
Ernie, I picked up the black aerosol cans at Carlise 2 years ago, it came out fine. Just be sure to use THIN coats, if you put it on too heavy it will come out stiff. By the way mine are also black. Give it a shot they are only about $12 a can.

GO IRON PIGS
Beegeebus, Thanks, I will look for some kind of spray dye. How does someone become a Ironpigs fan in Maine. Wifey and I see about 10 to 12 games a year. For all my Vette buddies that do not know the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs are the AAA minor league affiliate of the Phillies. Here in Allentown Pa. we have the most beautiful minor league stadium in all professional baseball . Go to a ballgame on a great summer night, eat a hot dog or two, drink a few cold one's drive your Vette there and home, life is good for this oldtimer.
I'd suggest for best long lasting results use only the dyes intended for nylon carpets and avoid the aerosol sprays. Super hot water soluble "scrub and brush" application.
AAA ball is certainly a pleasure nearly everywhere.

Ernie, I'm actually from Mass. My brother lives in Bethlehem, I used to live in Pottstown, many years ago. I have been to 1 game, and you are correct the stadium is beautiful. If I'm ever up that way I'll look you up and we can take in a game. Are you going to Carlise this year? My buddy and I are heading down Thursday - Saturday.
No I wont be going to Carlisle this year. My son and I would go together however he sold his C-3 recently and sort of lost interest lately. The father, son trip to Carlisle was just great and going alone to look at Vettes would not be the same.
