I'm running a 3.75 with a California performance 9 in torque converter. Art Carr looked at my Dino sheet and built me a converter years ago. My transmission is a Ried case with all ATI innards. All in conjunction with Dave Crowder himself did my valve train from the tip of the valve to the timing chain and everything in between so the cam and torque converter corresponded to each other correctly

How are your Air temps with your Paxton?? I have seen 250° with mine this is why I am putting in an intercooler Mishimoto intercooler is supposed to drop it about 30% which would put me in the 170 180° range.

I do not know my IAT's as I use a resistor set to about 50 degrees. My engine is on the stock ECM OBD1 tuned with TunerCat (Frankied did the tune). I still have the knock sensors functioning and also use meth with a 50/50 mix. Timing at 18 degrees 93 octane (lately I have been also adding Boostane which brings it to 98 octane). Making about 14 pounds of boost.

My old '94 was right up there...and was truly streetable..........drove it to Bowling Green, and Bloomington, averaged 23 MPG at 75 MPH with the A/C on.........close to 700 HP naturally aspirated. outfitted with a one off Lingenfelter 415 LT-5 purpose built for a 1998 High Speed Shootout in which it went 219 MPH and was the fastest car at the event. Then that engine was swapped into my '94............turn up the volume on the high speed shootout, you will not be disappointed. Mario Andretti drove the shootout car, and John Lingenfelter is in my old '94 at the drag strip in Bowling Green.

That's great to see these cars going that fast but that all looks like corporate type money and I am just a guy in my own garage doing it myself I don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to put into my car! All in my car I have developed on my own and I don't see many other backyard type mechanics that have done what I've been doing. Thanks for adding to the Post.

What did it run in the quarter mile??? I think that's the more real question. I could drive my car around on the street more but I only have an 8 gallon tank and I burn ethanol.

Here's an idea for all C4 enthusiasts how about having an event maybe somewhere in July at Indianapolis and have a shootout??? Qualifications would be somewhere along having an original style drivetrain in other words small block??? No back half no tube frame.

2023 C4 of the Year Finalist- Modified
fastest C4
Not the fastest but,
My 1990 ZR-1, LT5 motor 368 cu in 525hp at crank 418 to the rear 3.73 with a 4l8OE transmission (auto since 2004 3 4l6OE broke all of them) put in a 4l8OE in 2009. Has run the best of 1/4 mile at 11.54 @120.00 mph 60th ft 1.603. On the highway average 20 mpg at 70 mph @ about 2650 rpm
I just turned 147825 miles.
No road track time wrong type of steering wheel, 4-point roll bar with swing door bar and
stock front rims narrowed from 9.5 in to 6 in running Hoozier pro street tires 26 x 7.50R 17LT
M/T 315 drag radial when racing I drive to track about 55 miles one way. Nitto's 315 when just riding around

Who GAFF if the mods are done in your backyard or elsewhere? I too have an LPE 415 with 700 hp. It has a full stock interior and fuel tank, and can be driven coast to coast like butter and toast. I’ve taken it over 200 mph several times and in the 10s on street tires, stock IRS.
YMMV

Well in light of that statement it's usually the guys with deep pockets and a checkbook that win. For some writing the check isn't a big deal it's the guys that do it themselves are
the true gearheads in my opinion but my offer still stands to make a national event shootout style at Indianapolis. And no I am not the fastest. The guy in Canada still got me beat pretty good I just think it would be fun to have a following on this car since everybody likes to poo poo the C4 Corvette. As far as the IRS versus solid rear end I had disintegrated mine a couple of times and that's why I moved to a better rear end plus NHRA does not normally like IRS's until recently. I also got tired of replacing the planetary in my 700R and moved to a th400 which I built myself with a friend's help. It's great to see the LT5 putting out 700 horse my block came from a boneyard 13 years ago and have not destroyed it yet it is old school! I am currently on fence to put a dart SHP block in it but still keep the old school style motor. And this is something that I am doing myself also with the help of a friend who has more of the tools than I do and 35 years at the GM Dyno labs. In the spring it dynoed at 600 RWH at 6500 RPMs and I normally shift at 7,000.

Melting Slicks
At my last Autocross I met a guy who has an 89 that I would like to nominate to join this club. I didn't have enough time to talk or look his car over but it was very impressive. And he took me for a lap in the car to boot. I thought I was going to be the only C4 that day till I saw him. The car looked fast from a distance but that doesn't mean much till you see it run. When he stated pulling the inside front wheel off the ground at 70MPH exiting a corner I knew I was in trouble. Talking to him and having a close up look at the car was very impressive. He is the original owner of the 89 and auto crossed it the first week he owned it and has been ever since. He is currently competing in 4 different autocross clubs. He also does Drag Racing events. He is on his 12th engine. many more rear ends. He is now running a 9" rear because he broke every Dana 44 part made. He said you could name any aftermarket part made for them and he can show you what it looks like broken. His current engine is a dart wide block at 468 CI making some 675 or something to the rear wheels. Dry Sumped and N/A. Fully Caged. Running 315/335 Hoosiers on 18" Wheels. Interesting was the car still had its original ZF trans it has never been apart. After jumping out of his car and back into mine for my next run was like getting into a rented Chevy Malibu.

test drove a '90 vette last year that had a 400 lingenfelter engine in it. not the fastest, but it was fast and had a lot of get up. it was a 6-speed and the gears had a racing ratio, i honestly had a hard time getting it going, you really had to put the gas on to get it going. the lingenfelter intake was pretty cool. it was an impressive engine.
and a few years ago, test drove an '85 that a guy put a 400 engine in it, that thing felt like riding on the Disneyworld Rockin-roller-coaster (the aerosmith ride) , it was scary....and the guy who was selling it, it was his daily driver....wish i would have bought that one!!!!
there's a guy who i follow on the C4 FB page, i think he has an LS engine in his C4, and he races it, sounds like he does pretty well at the events he goes to! his car is really cool!!!

Great to hear about all these cars and a legend Gail Banks joining the conversation I still would like to do an organization and shoot out at Indy next year and could use anybody's help in trying to organize this event.

TPI421vette aka Jim Barth may be a contender for quickest/fastest C4. I lost track of what size his engine is now in his 91. Every time the wind changes direction, he picks up more cubes of displacement. I think it was a 496 years ago, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s closer to 600 cubes now. He runs a lot of dedicated track parts, including a pricey roller shaft rocker setup and nitrous through a stock ZF trans.
