To mod or not is a personal choice....I think what he is saying is if you want to mod but don't just to squeeze a little more resale value later on is a bit contrary to what corvettes are about...they are designed for a different purpose than just any old car... corvettes are drivers cars, the American sports car...I try to make it a point to never invest in a depreciating asset..very, very few cars are truly investment grade..most vettes are for fun..just my .02.. :D
The only mod that will kill the value of a Vette, is the one that the buyer doesn't like :D
Seriously, like others have said, buy it, mod it, drive it and don't worry about the re-sale.
Think a sub 12 car might have been driven hard? How else would one know it was a sub 12 car
Think about it for a moment, most hi po cars are built to withstand the extra torque/HP. So if the car's #'s (leak down & comp. test, etc) check out, why wouldn't I buy it?
A stocker not driven hard  Thats TOTALLY up to the owner. Over the years I've driven stockers much harder than modded cars on a regular basis, because I was not happy with the performance and took every advantage I could to totally use what ever it had :yesnod:
Just my $.02.

Re: What mods kill value on a Vette? (STREETKNIGHT)
I know a guy with an 11 second supercharged WS6 Trans-Am that he never and I do mean NEVER dogged or raced. SO not EVERY heavily modded car has been raced per say.
I am going to enjoy the car as a driver. My 90 coupe was an absolute dog when I bought it. I put a lot of work into it & got it into the 12s. It was a great car I drove everyday (exept when it was broken) that was fast for what it was. I learned early on that you'll never get out what you put into them. That's not what I'm going for with my next one. I want an LT4 to have an LT4. I'm going to drive & enjoy the car, I just don't want to ruin a potential classic. I guess I'm getting old, speed just isn't as important to me anymore. No matter how fast you are, there's always someone faster. By the way, I'm curious. How do you know you have an eleven second car without driving it hard enough to find out? And if you're willing to throw away thousands of dollars to make a car fast, why not drive it hard? But no matter how fast a T/A or Camaro is (there are some really fast ones out there) it will never be a Corvette. :yesnod:
Seem's as though I put the Vette on a shrine when I got it, although I always wanted one since I was five. The past two years the car only got 2000 miles on it   but it only had 54049 when I go it too. And I didn't want to use it as a daily driver, so I kept looking for beaters to drive. Had a beater; beater kept breaking down, stranding me, blah blah and now I said to hell with it! I'm going to drive the Vette till the wheels fall off. Put what mods I want to, do what ever to it (of course with in taste). I'm going to enjoy the car while it lasts.
small things like exhaust, cat back, and a k&n will not hurt it much. you just dont mention those things when you sell. appearance mods kill the car. spoilers, groung effects, after market seat covers, after market stereos. all that stuff limits the buyers of a car. everything you take off make sure you keep the stock stuff. after market wheels do not increase the resale, they do just the opposite. put the stock wheels back on to sell it.
dont do mods you cant un-do. if you do performance mods that dont show thats fine. just dont mention them when you sell unless they ask.
most people that want to buy a vette want to buy gm's version of the vette not someone elses version.
are you saying all 84-87's are worthless reguardless of miles or condition so you might as well use them up? if you are you are completely wrong. a low mileage , stock 84-87 with low miles will bring nearly tripple what a high miles high modded 84-87 will.

no and I don't know how you could've even read that from my comments. Lets face reality though: The typical 84-87 Corvette (of which there are a ton to choose from) with high miles isn't exactly commanding a premium these days. It makes more sense to me to buy one of these than to specifically buy an LT4 and mod it when:
1. It costs more initially to buy the LT4
2. For all intents and purposes, it won't be an LT4 after it's modded anyway, so what's the point in buying it specifically?

A carb? Wayta go Dude!
Im just guessing here but I'll a weeks pay that ya'all don't beat your car?
How didja get by emissions?
Personally I like modifed cars. Stock cars are boring.
If you intend to keep it which many of us DO....don't worry about modding it. Make it yours if that's what you intend to do.
I know a Guy with a mustang cobra who thinks the world of it, He's entitled. It's a 1993 with 4000 miles on it. To me, that is a waste of a car...BUT the clincher is, He thinks it's worth as much as it was new seeing it's original and with low mileage. What's more obnoxious...is each time He sees my car...He mentions how I've killed the re-sale value. I simply tell Him, I couldn't give a frogs fat *** about re-sale value(The first WEEK I had my car it turned UN-ORIGINAL) and I enjoy USING my car :D.
It's YOUR CAR, do with it what YOU like....Enjoy it.
