Was wondering if someone can help? I have an 86 vette and had no problems out of it till a few months ago. When I go and try to start it now when I hit the key the alarm starts flashing and the car will not start, even after deactivating the alarm and trying to start it again, the alarm starts flashing and the car still won't start. This is a repeating pattern and I have no clue what to do. I've talked to the service people at chevrolet and they look at me like im dum, I've even hauled it over there but they didn't have a clue. Any idea on what to do? Thanks
manual or auto tranny?...sounds like a vats problem can't believe a dealership wouldn't know.......I had a similar problem, solved it by locking/unlocking passenger door....don't know why, just worked......

It's an automatic, and I'll give that a try. What the heck is the vats?
vehicle anti theft system....there are ways to bypass it but fixing it would be better....sounds like you really need an fsm....gm....get one on ebay...
welcome to the world of c4's...there are guys with 86's who'll help you..
From the description: key in ignition, turn the key and system light comes on and the starter does not engage. Sounds like Vats to me.
If the security light did not come on then I'd say neutral start switch or starter.
Read up on cleaning the resistor on the key along with where it contacts the sides of the switch. If that doesn't work the read up on doing a bypass of the resistor. Between then, I suspect it's your problem.
I had similar problem on my 1989 Corvette, that use to drive me crazy that when I turn the key it won't start, and after while it would start, and had it towed to the dealership and they replaced ignitions switch and never had that problem again, I also learned they there was TSB on ignitions switch.
I would check your ignition switch!
I bet the dealership tech's never worked on C4, those people are gone with all there knowledge.
