I have the original in my 88
I jinxed my alternator by making this psot.
On the way home from Carlisle on August 23. 2002 at 7:04pm 5 miles east of Scranton, Pa. at 220,466 miles my original alternator went south. (11.9 volts, eventually stopped putting out altogether)
I was able to make it to Newtown,Ct and spent the nite there. Got a new one at Pep Boy's in Waterbury, Ct.
