I've never understood the hate that a lot of people have for our beloved vettes. Personally I've always loved the look of the c4 so it boggles my mind how some people can't stand them! Maybe they're just jealous
I think it's the price tag.... people get the feeling, "Why do you get to have a Corvette for 10 grand when mine is 70 grand? That's not a real Corvette."
Sucks that we get to have a great package for a cheap price doesn't it?
The only "hate discussion" I have ever heard was right here on this forum.
I have been to many car shows with my '96, with plenty of compliments and awards.
My '96 has made 7 Hot Rod Power Tour "long hauls", and nothing but compliments.
Been to Eureka Springs during Corvette Weekends a few times, and nothing but compliments.
If someone "hates" your car, maybe it might be a POS?

I've never had anyone say anything negative about my 85. Many "haters" here are the ones who buy $2500.00 "gems" and come here to say what a piece of junk it turned out to be. They then think everyone else's C4 is as bad as the scrap they so cheaply bought. And there are still the ones who don't even own a C4, never have, and who just troll here to stir the pot.
I don't see the hate you are talking about.
Where (besides the forum) are you seeing this "hate" ?
How are people hating it, do they **** on it,spit on it take a dump on it etc.
I would be interested in hearing about your "hate" experiences.
It's all over Facebook too. And being around a Used Car dealership often, had a C4 up for sale with a lot of people saying "Nah, I don't like that body style." Or "They had a lot of problems those cars." When comparing to a C5 that was for sale. I just sat back and bit my tongue.
I never like the C4's. I didn't care for the C4 body style when it came out and, after getting a ride in an '84 which turned out to be a rattle trap of a car, I was SURE I didn't like the C4's. I sold a pristine, '75 L82 convertible in 1982 when I moved to Florida and the '84 was junk in comparison. That '75 was my 12th Corvette, starting with a '56 in 1964.
Fast forward 32 years and the Corvette bug once again bit me in the ***! My budget was $10K. C1's and C2's were out of reach and clean C3's were in the mid teens. So, I joined this forum and started a thread titled, "Why Purchase a C4?" https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...hase-a-c4.html
Y'all so loved your C4's that I had to reconsider my position. When the opportunity presented itself (a PM from a Forum member) I bought my '96 CE. At first I was a little underwhelmed because it rode too smoothly and was too quiet. A few mods later, some chambered muffler eliminators and I, too, now love my C4! I've driven several C5's and C6's and none impressed me as a significant step up from my '96. Perhaps a C7 someday but, for now... I'm just having too much fun!
Loved corvettes b/c of the 70s ones I'd see as a kid, fascination hit me earlier this year when I saw a 78 beat to sh*t for sale, when I started looking I didn't love the C4s, but after driving 2 of them in early summer I'm hooked
The C4 is such a great platform, still looks cool and performs very well due to the torque. A great bang for the buck car if you can wrench a little on your own, even better.

This is exactly it.....
a similar (non-car) example is my buddy in florida who bought a foreclosure for 350k in a neighborhood of recently built 500k and up homes.
He's in his 30s and his neighbors (people who originally bought the lots and built) dont really seem to like him - even though he's a super nice guy.
Let's not forget that after the crap that GM turned the corvette into in the mid 70's to the early 80's the C4 saved the brand.
The late 70s C3s were the best selling Corvettes ever. Even to this day, no model of the car has sold or even approached the 100,000+ Corvettes sold in 78/79 (same style, normal length model years). You may want to check yearly sales numbers for late 70 and early 80s C3s versus C4s before you make such statements.
That said, I love my 3 C4s and my 2C3s, and all Corvettes for that matter.
But the C4 did not save the brand by any stretch. The Brand was going gangbusters as it was...GM could not build late 70s C3s fast enough, even with multiple shifts. And when I went in May of 1978 to buy a 78, the waiting list was so long I bought a year old 77 instead (enjoyed it, and eventually got a 78).
Again, I love C4s and own three of them...but they did not 'save the brand'.

They were not crap its just that Chevrolet have to meet all kinds of goverment standards for pollution and fuel economy. If you remember back in the late 70's and early eighties performance cars were Dodges 4 cylinder chargers, Chevy's X11 Citation and Oldmobiles decaled Omega .The Trans am in 1980 was given the boat anchor 301 and when they put a turbo on it it was able to do a 16 second quater mile which they thought was lightening fast. The Buick Grand national was the real first performance car to break that slow car trend along with the early C4. Ford by then also caught on by pumping up the Fox platform Mustang to 225 horses and they sold a bunch of them. The mid 70's Corvette still had the looks and Chevrolet sold a bunch of them considering the price of fuel.

One thing I have noticed on the forum is the 84 is not kicked around like it used to be. I guess some started to realize all those Ford owners who were spreding tales about Crossfires catching fire and burning up did not hold true. And some must of come to the revelation that the 82 has the same engine as the 84 and that if collectors editions 82s are selling in the 10 grand and up range, I guess the crossfire is not so bad after all.
