Default High Mounted Brake Light Question

One of the bulbs in the high mounted brake light on my 88 coupe is burned out. I bought a new 891, which is what is called for, and went to replace the burned out one. I can't get the new bulb to plug in. It does look a little different than the old one. It has the 2 little wires that come out the bottom, but glass is shaped slightly different. The new bulb is a Sylvania. I found another 891 bulb made by Phillips, but it looks just like the Sylvania that i bought. Has anyone come across this before?

I had a similar problem. The new bulb had a tip on top of the glass unlike the old ones. It took some fidgeting, but I did get it in.

Yes- I noticed the tip on the top of my old bulb. I'll mess with it some more and see if I can't get it to work. Thanks for the reply!

I ran into the same issue. Carefully bend the posts to the right width. I say carefully because the glass breaks easy!

I bought a set of 5 led lights at autozone I guess some people would use for bling ! Took hatch light off and removed the board the bulbs plug into and glued the led spaced apart! They look good bright enough and only cost 20 bucks ! Those stock bulbs like in dash burn so hot they were heating up board and leaving burn marks around them! The dash bulbs I. Ought #42 you can bend prongs straight out and the fit right into socket haven't lost a bulb yet and they are still bright enough for dash!
Just saying bra!
