Default Considering an LT4, any feedback?

Hey guys, I have been the proud owner of a C3 and a C6. My Dad had an 85 TPI so I know a little about C4's but my knowledge is lacking...

So here is the deal, currently between vette's and I was holding out to get back into a C3 but I have recently been warming to either a 96 Grandsport or LT4. Lo and behold this week one pops up at a local dealer. I have not gone to look at it (yet) but I wondered what I should look for. Also what do you think of the price? Dealer comes recommended by friends (as dealers go).

Details: 1996 Polo Green over Saddle, LT4, 76,xxx, 2 tops, with the usual amenities. I know enough not to say (rare optional 6 speed or power drivers seat) Looks like an aftermarket exhaust but I can't tell which. Paint looks good in photos but we all know how that can go.

Any input? I will see if I can remember how to post pics....

Depends on the price. The C4 is a lot of fun - I think its ore fun than my C6GS or C6Z51 were. The LT4 cars are a good bit faster than my LT1 as well, and give the C5s a good run for their money.

However, if its priced within range of a C5, it's not worth it IMO. I'd say around $10k if the car is perfect.

Another typical oops... wheels are on the wrong sides.
Make sure to have them fix it ... not your mistake.

LT-4 cars have been holding their own. Considering it's at a dealer that seems like a pretty good starting point. If it's as nice as it looks, wear them down a bit and you got a fun ride.

Looks like it may have a Corsa exhaust which adds a few bucks to it. I think the price is a little high but it's at a dealer. I'd shoot for $10K.

That is my favorite color combination. Car looks clean and you will like the LT4. The only complaint I have with mine is the shifter but will be installing a Hurst. Oh, and doing the headlight upgrade.

My opinion is that is a great buy.

You need to drive it though. Make sure everything works, switches, all latches and locks, inspect weather stripping, see if it engages gears smoothly. If something is not as it should be talk them down a little. As long as everything is there and complete, it is a really good price for what it is.

That is a Magnaflow axle back exhaust.

Definitely recommend a Hella/ Philips bulb upgrade, and +1 on the Hurst. I think you'll fall in love with the later C4.

Yup, that's a Magnaflow. Torch gave you good advice. Also, make sure the car doesn't crank for a while before it starts. Make sure the steering column doesn't have any play in it. Good luck

I just bought a LT4 today. The thread "door overspray" was my post. I have driven a few C4's, and the LT4 is a good bang for your buck, plus I really like the styling. I think they have bottomed and as long as you don't abuse it, your not really going to loose anything on it.
FYI - I wound up paying around 11800 for mine. Its a 96 CE coupe with about 42K miles on it. Its fully documented and in great shape.

Gosh, what a great looking car. Each car has things I like and don't like. That car has a great engine, great styling, cool wheels, and a great color combination. Quite possibly, however the ugliest seats ever made.

Got one the same color. looks like a jewel in the sun! Got different seats though. With both tops, it sounds like a nice find. Make em flip the wheels!

Dealer north of me has a '96 LT1 for sale for basically $13K, and it's been sitting for a long time. I'm just not sure these cars are worth that honestly. and when i looked at the car again the weather-stripping was in pretty bad shape. So that's one thing to really check b/c i missed it when i first saw the car and drove it.

I guess for me when you start talking a car from '96, which is now 18 years old, i want to know if the big things have been looked at: shocks/suspension, transmission checked, engine maintained (or rebuilt), etc.
even if it's low miles (which i always laugh at really, and even my friend who is a mechanic laughs at that), a sitting 18 year old car will have some issues, etc. But i've been seeing the LT4 models for under 10K lately, sure they are high miles, but that means they've been driven, most usually say they are maintained....make sure you drive it and check it out.
good luck!

btw...it looks like a nice car, well maintained....i still hate the stock tires /rims on the C4s, i think they look ugly! i saw GEO prism coming into work today and they have the same rims. i thought: ug! C4s need updated rims for me!!!!! just not a fan of them at all!!!!
