I have a 1986 coupe. The more I look at my side view mirrors I want to change the glass. The glass is a little discolored with some scratches. Is there a way to change the glass without removing the whole assembly from the car?

Thanks....
Hi they come with adhesive on the back of the mirror, they fit right over the old mirror.You can also remove the old mirror and fit the new mirror to the plastic trim.
I would rather remove the old mirror first. My question is how is that done without damaging the plastic backing.
Thanks again
If I remember from the back the plastic has some holes or areas you could bust the mirror from the backside than remove the pieces using some heat to soften the glue.
edit:::
Sorry I forgot the mirror portion is removable just be careful not to break the plastic screws or seats and cross that go to the motor. Pull it off with a nice even pull...

It is possible to pop the glass part from the trunion (mentioned in vid) by tilting the glass to inner extreme and sliding your fingers behind the glass to pop it free.
I did this on my '88 to tighten the mentioned screws behind the mirror.
If you don't feel comfortable with it a local auto glass shop should easily do the job.
