Default Brake differences?

What is the difference between standard and heavy duty brakes beside the rotor diameter? How to some of the aftermarket brakes upgrades compare?

I know at sometime someone has upgraded the front brake to the 13" rotors. However all I know on the brake differences are 12" or 13" rotors for now.

I know this has been answered many times before, but for some reason I cant find the information when I am looking for it. I will probably find it when I move on to working on something else, and don't want it.

Update
Better pads and factory style rotors seem to be the what is recommended.

The J55 heavy duty code.
The rotors are a larger diameter and also thicker, thus the callipers are wider.
The h/d callipers and h/d disc's do not interchange with standard (even though they are twin piston like the standard 88-94)
I believe the 95-96 came with h/d brakes standard.
Of course the ZR1 came with the J55 h/d brakes standard.

They will fit any 88+ corvette without modification, however 84-87 need adapter brackets to fit them. (not sure if they will fit under 16 inch rims).

They fill the open type 17 inch wheel, and look great

I have a 93 the HD brake code is not on the list. It has 275/40ZR17 on the front, but wont clear 16" wheels. I'm considering a brake upgrade, and trying to get more information before deciding.

The Wilwood kit I have seen looks good, but I don't think I need 6 piston front calipers.

Hi You have 17 inch wheels from 88 to 96 only the 84-87 had 16 inch.

If the sticker on center console lid or rear storage tray does not have the J55 in there, you either have the standard 12 inch disc's or a previous owner has upgraded it to the J55 heavy duty braking.

There is no need for 6 piston callipers, as long as you have fresh brake fluid and high friction brake pads Like hawk street or hawk hp plus. I do a lot of track events and the J55 brakes have never let me down.

They are reproduction Corvette wheels from a C5+. The only picture i have is from when someone backed into it in the winter before it was repaired, and then it is the rear wheel.

The wheels were not taken care of by the PO, and I cant get them clean.

The other way I know at sometime the brakes were upgraded is when I changed the pads & rotors for standard brakes did not fit.

I'll have to look into the pads suggested.

Any rotor recommendation to go with the pads?

They are all at the point where they will be under the discard thickness if they were to be turned again. I don't know much on brake upgrades because I normally just use factory style replacement parts. Now for my vette I want something better.

I thought that I have heard the track guys say to use the stock J55 rotors with upgraded pads, fluid, and lines. We'll see.
