I just ordered a new radio for my 95 LT1. I want to update the speakers when the radio is installed. Does anyone know how many speakers there are in the C4's and where are they? I know there are 2 in the back. Thanks!
I don't know how much (if at all) it changed over time, but in my 87 there are a total of 6, 2 in the dash, 2 in the doors, 2 in the back. I only replaced 4 and left the 2 in the dash where they were as they are too difficult to remove.
You have four speaker assemblies if you have the Bose (speakers and four amps) or four speakers if you have the Delco. All are in the same place whether Bose or Delco.
Two are in the back as you already know. The other two are near your legs in the footwell on each side at the front of the lower doorsill - you'll see the bumps covered in carpet. To get to them remove the lower sill covers. The speaker cover is attached to them and will come off with the sill covers.
I have an 86 and replaced the Bose unit and speakers some time ago. At that time I only replaced four speakers. As the previous response said, it was 2 in the doors, and 2 in the rear compartment area. To keep the car looking stock the bose covers can be modified to fit over the new speakers. This kept the appearance stock looking, but the new speakers and head unit helped the sound, and gave me CD compatibility. My 86 only had a cassette unit, and that was the major reason for the upgrade.
