When I replaced the ignition wires on my '96 CE the black spiral wire wrap on the #6 and #8 spark plug wires was brittle and cracked. I bought some wire wrap that looked like it was the right stuff, from my local auto parts store. Subsequently, that's starting to melt and I need to find a better flame/heat resistant replacement. The only products that I find on line are in bulk quantities for well over $100...I only need two feet. Any one know where the correct 3/8" black flame resistant spiral wrap can be purchased in small quantities? Thanks, Paul
Do you mean the wrap that's made from plastic and split down the middle? If so, I have it on almost all my wires but there are a couple places that I can't because the heat is too much and they will crack and melt. I just don't put it on those particular wires. The 98% of the rest of the wire wraps are good to go for years. Sorry, don't have a close-up pic.
I don't have a specific product solution to offer, but I'd suggest you contact an applications engineer or technical sales rep at Tyco Electronics, and tell them you're in need of this material for a high-temperature application, and ask for a recommended product and distributor. They should be able to hook you up. If that doesn't get you a solution, ask the same sort of person at Digi-Key the same question.
Sorry, can't help you with a source, but the first three photos in this post shows the black wrap around the red plug wires that the OP is looking for.
I think he's talking about the split loom pieces seen in this picture on the spark plug wires:
Mine got brittle and broke. I replaced them with something that looked the same that I got from Autozone. They melted. Apparently GM knows something Autozone doesn't.

Carey, I purchased some high temperature, flame resistant, corrugated split wire loom like you're talking about. I'm having my car NCRS Flight Judged at the May 16th Plantation Inn Event. So, I need correct appearing stuff. I'll bring some for you Saturday evening if you would like to try it in the high heat areas...Paul

Paul, thanks. Appreciate the help with the high temp wrap but I'm up here in Virginia right now celebrating Xmas and New Years with the son and grandkids. Be back in the new year.
I finally found a 3/8" flame retardant spiral wrap for the number 6 and 8 spark plug wires that is working OK so far. It's only $1.60 per foot...not exactly the same as the factory installed, but close:

I put something like that on my auxiliary coolant fan switch wire. I got it from work, so I don't know anything about it's resistance to heat. I do know that it melted...
