Default Water pump install

Being a newbie and willing to try and save some money, when my 96 needed a new water pump i went for it. After removal i decided to do the opti and ign wires. Had quite a few challenges but now i'm ready to install the new pump. My problem is the lack of room to properly position the pump. What should i remove or move to make this easier?

Thanks in advance for all info.

Your post doesn't say what you have removed, but I just went through this. I removed the belt, I took off the alternator, and removed the pulley off the power steering pump. Of course all of the hoses need to be removed, the fresh air intake to the throttle body, also you can remove the throttle body but it is not necessary and you have to twist it around a little to get it down into position but once your there it should slide right into place. Use some gasket adhesive to the get the gaskets to stick onto the water pump, don't put it on both sides just the side to the pump that way if you ever remove it later the gasket will stick to the pump for the most part making it easy to clean.

Default Water pump install

Thanks for the quick reply. I must be missing something. The alternator has been moved over, the power steering pump has been disconnected from the bracket and moved over. I still have a problem, I'm not sure if i"m trying it from the wrong location or angle. The a/c lines are part of the problem. After going through the crank pulley removal and install, the new opti and wires I thought I was home free. The wire from the opti to the starter solenoid how is that path run? (I did not write that down, my bad).

Thanks again and Merry Christmas

get 4 3/8 studs made up with a screw driver end on them. screw them into the block for the water pump bolts. glue and install the gaskets on the block. (you might want to do a dry run before the glue) then slip the water pump on. then one at a time screw out the studs and replace them with the bolts. don't forget about using thread sealant on the w/p bolts. those holes go right into the water jackets.

if you removed the old pump the new one should slide right in there. it takes a little bit to wiggle it in there

As far as the coil wire goes, when you get the water pump on you will see that there is a little hole that it goes through and plugs into the opti. The vent lines come up along the the power steering pump area and clip onto the bracket that holds the AC pump. I remember the AC lines hitting the pump but you have to work it in there square peg round hole situation think 3d and twist it around it wasn't that bad you got the other one out, do you have the intake port where the thermostat goes off? I had trouble getting mine out with that on and had to remove. Did your water pump come with all the inlets installed or did you have to choose and install them? The reason I ask is if you have the pointing the wrong way i.e. 2 o'clock instead of 8 o'clock that might be fighting you.

I would recommend against glueing the gasket to the block if it is stuck on the pump you are fine and like I said when it comes off next time it will be easier to clean, Yes use sealant on the bolts.
