Default Window Glass Polishing

I've just acquired a set of used windows to replace the heavily damaged ones I currently have.

These are used and in good condition but I would like to polish them before installing to remove any small scratches and just generally spruce them up.

Anybody have any experience at glass polishing? I have a Meguire's DA polisher and pad assortment. Would that do the trick or do I need something more aggressive? What pad and what compound?

Glass polish is made from Cerium Oxide and can also use a different pad like flat rayon discs.

Regular aluminum oxide paint polish isn't even capable of scratching glass as far as I have tried. There's a small kit of products from CarPro USA detailing that I bought and it took water spots and grime right off of some windows that had been exposed to perpetual rain in the Pacific NW.

with a machine, get the 5" rayon discs and skip the hand polish pads.

I have seen it discussed and there is not much success with glass polishing. Most glass is replaced new nowadays.

You can polish out *light* scratches and wiper haze from the windshield, but the rest of the glass is tempered. What you see is what you get unless it's overspray or other debris on top of the glass.

This has been the consensus I've run into in my research. I guess I'll just give them a once over with some Barkeepers Friend and let the shop install them.

Considering the price difference between these used windows, $70 for both, and new ones I believe I can live with a few small scratches for now.

I'm with Joe C.

I've used a glass polishing kit from Eastwood that worked great.

A detail guy I knew would use rubbing compound and a fine steel wool pad.

The windshield is not tempered. It's laminated, a much softer glass.
