Default shame on ford

they've taken it to far!! Just read where there coming out with a new GT40. Probably other then the ac cobra the most iconic performance car ford ever made. Im not a ford man but I always did love the gts. Ford has crossed the line though. The v8 is gone and a eco boost v6 is the new powerplant. 600hp so they had to make the whole thing carbon fiber to still be fast enough to be called a supercar. Heck you can get more hp then that in a mustang or Camaro. Would have been much cooler with the supercharged boss mustang v8 and im sure theres a lot more left on the table in that motor to makes an easy 100 hp more then the mustang just by using a different supercharger pulley. I can just picture it with some rice rocket megaphone exaust on it with that dull blat of a v6. Sacrilegious I scream!!!!!!!!!!! Some old Ford racers are turning over in there graves!!!! Just saw too where the raptor truck will also be eco boost this year

speaking of Ford...

My best friend since HS and I went to the Car show in Boston last weekend; He is a Mustang owner, but is still ok

We noticed that out of all the new cars and trucks the Mustang was the most lack-luster of them all. Even the new Canyon/Colorado were "sexier".

Anyone else have that impression on the new 'stang? And of the new cars in general?

It is called innovation and progress.

Personally i think it is great. If I had the money to blow on one I would absolutely be standing in line opening day.

Not too many years ago it was crazy to think that a small block v8 could make over 500 HP not to mention in a big three production vehicle that is obtainable to the masses with a warranty. Today we have such vehicles as the Z06 and Hellcat.

Not long ago it was insane to think that a V6 could be as powerful as or compete with a V8 and get better fuel economy. Today we have the Nissan GTR (Godzilla) and soon the ATS-V/CTS-V V6 and Ford GT.

Ford is pushing the technology envelope of the EcoBoost platform just as GM is pushing the LS family platform. Ford has been pushing technology since the late 80's starting with the SVO Mustang. Obviously someone at Ford believes the future is smaller displacement forced induction.

Be thankful that there are manufacturers willing to push the envelope to provide these insanely powerful cars/trucks to us at "reasonable" prices.

I can't imagine that there are or would ever be Ford racers or engineers of old rolling in their graves due to this. Go look at Ford's history of racing and you will find more than once that they choose technology and innovation to go racing. Carrol Shelby himself embraced Turbo technology in the 80's with the Dodge OMNI GLH.

Oh .... and if someone can afford a new Ford GT I seriously doubt they will put some cheap Fast-N-Furious exhaust on it. On top of that I doubt anyone would use it as a daily driver.

When you watch the Nissan GTRs with their blown V6s going over 220 mph in the 1/2 mile runs, ya hafta tip your hat!

Personally, I'm glad Ford is taking off the gloves. Maybe it will light a fire under Chevrolet to really do a mid-engine Corvette with a screaming little V8 making oodles of rpm and hp, AWD, etc, etc!

(older Ford GT-40)

I agree. I'm impressed with the 365 hp twin turbo V6 AWD Taurus I drive. 56k of abuse and still going strong. Lots of torque steer though.

While I like the idea of a mid-engine Corvette. If they make one in the next 5 years I would not consider buying one for at least 15 years until the used prices are down.

Actually I like the 2015 Mustang with the 4cyl. Ecoboost engine in it. I went to one of the dealerships in Knoxville and had a chance to look one over (couldn't drive it-it was in the showroom). Kind of reminded me of the SVO Mustangs from the '80's. If I had the coins, I'd buy one.

so you guys would be ok with the new zo6 being a twin turbo 4 cyl with a bazooka exhaust, neon lights under it and a sub woofer that shakes store windows. Sorry but to me vettes, cameros, mustangs, and GTs allways had iconic v8s in them. I guess where we differ is im older and grew up with muscle cars. My idea of a performance car is an ls6 chevelle or a 427 tri power vette. Not a Subaru wrx or an ecoboost focus!!!!!!!!!! Thank God theres like minded people at Chevrolet that still come up with cool things like the ZL1 camero, or the Zo6 vette or even the new SS that they knew would only appeal to a limited audience but brought it out anyway. May the design team that puts the first v6 corvette into production burn in hell for eternity!!

I have to say that I am not against a big block, big cam, high compression V8. That sound of a rumbling V8 is one of the best things in the world to hear and feel. That along with the smell of unburnt raw fuel and I am in hot rodding heaven. I grew up with and around 454's, 460's, 427's, 428's, 426's, 502's, 440's, 396's, 351C's etc. etc. as well. However, those production big blocks have been dead for 20 years. The last production hot rod with a big block that I remember was the early 90's Chevy C1500 454SS. Mind you that I also went through the 80's and 90's and saw the SVO Mustang, BUICK GNX, OLDS Aurora, Grand Prix GSX, Mitshu 3000GT, Dodge OMNI GLH etc. etc..

Hot Rodders of the 80's screamed murder when the "first" fuel injected motor with computer control hit the market. They all said "horse power is dead 'cause we can't upgrade". Wow!!! How we must have lived in the dark ages back then..... This is how I see your views against forced induction, small displacement motors. No offense intended but your views are singularly sided with large blinders and no room for alternatives or different views.

If you think turbos and small displacement equals neon and "fart pipes". I invite you to join the new millennium as that junk died out in 1999. I haven't seen a civic with neon, stereo and loud exhaust in probably 8 years and I work with guys half my age everyday that have a lot of money to blow on stupid things.

Last time I checked, almost all these high output muscle cars of today (4's, 6's, 8's, 10's and 12's) are running some type of forced induction to get these crazy high numbers.

Go check out the XJ220 and tell me that is something you wouldn't own.

You are welcome to your opinion and in a lot of ways I see your point but as always, the future marches on and these machines are part of the future.

I can the side of big V8s, rumbling and everything.
i have always been a big V8 guy. Actually my Corvette is the first small block muscle car i have owned.

Now back to the V6 Eco. I used to drive a 5.4 V8 Ford, crappy milage, ok power, crappy towing.
Then I went to Diesels, tons of power, lots of noise, turbos whistling but pretty expensive to own with regular maintenance and diesel prices until recently.

I had a F350 6.4 with normal go fast stuff cranking out 600Hp and 1K torque until the engine let go.

In came the Eco Boost. I was very skeptical, trying to decide if i wanted the 5.0 V8 or the 3.5 twin turbo.

Once I really started looking at the Eco its very similar design to Diesel engines. With the Direct injection, twin variable geometry turbos and very flat torque curve starting around 1800 and maxing at 2500 all the way to red line.

With this type of technology its no wonder Ford is making this the main line engine for most of the line up.

I too love the LS engines and the power they make but after driving Turbo trucks for the last 6 years I frankly wont drive one without. Plus when I'm not towing I get great milage for a 6k lb truck and when I want to tow it has TONS of low end power. Even compared to a diesels. It almost has the same power numbers as diesels just 6 years ago. That's impressive IDK who you are.

I would rather have a 3-4 something liter V8 based on the 2014+ LT1 with twin turbos, then a v6 with twin turbos.

I know who I am, but IDC if you do.

Pretty obvious that Ford is promoting the Ecoboost V6, and putting one into their halo car is one way to garner good press for it. If it makes 600hp, I don't care where it comes from....even though a V8 is my first pick every time.

I think it is just the next step towards the future of US engines. Look at how long Europe has been making big horsepower engines with small displacements. It's about time it's happening here. But I agree that there is no sweeter sound than a lumpy V8.

The world can't sustain the gas consumption it has for decades. If an option provides the desired performance yet gets better mileage overall, then that's better than losing out completely. Same type of debate went on when it Flatheads vs SBC's, Flatheads would rule forever according to some and nothing would ever replace it.

Let's just see how it plays out.

It was on the ABC world news last night that Mustang 4 cyl's pipe artificial exhaust notes through the stereo system of the car to make it sound like a muscle car. What Posers
