shame on ford
My best friend since HS and I went to the Car show in Boston last weekend; He is a Mustang owner, but is still ok
We noticed that out of all the new cars and trucks the Mustang was the most lack-luster of them all. Even the new Canyon/Colorado were "sexier".
Anyone else have that impression on the new 'stang? And of the new cars in general?
Personally i think it is great. If I had the money to blow on one I would absolutely be standing in line opening day.
Not too many years ago it was crazy to think that a small block v8 could make over 500 HP not to mention in a big three production vehicle that is obtainable to the masses with a warranty. Today we have such vehicles as the Z06 and Hellcat.
Not long ago it was insane to think that a V6 could be as powerful as or compete with a V8 and get better fuel economy. Today we have the Nissan GTR (Godzilla) and soon the ATS-V/CTS-V V6 and Ford GT.
Ford is pushing the technology envelope of the EcoBoost platform just as GM is pushing the LS family platform. Ford has been pushing technology since the late 80's starting with the SVO Mustang. Obviously someone at Ford believes the future is smaller displacement forced induction.
Be thankful that there are manufacturers willing to push the envelope to provide these insanely powerful cars/trucks to us at "reasonable" prices.
I can't imagine that there are or would ever be Ford racers or engineers of old rolling in their graves due to this. Go look at Ford's history of racing and you will find more than once that they choose technology and innovation to go racing. Carrol Shelby himself embraced Turbo technology in the 80's with the Dodge OMNI GLH.
Oh .... and if someone can afford a new Ford GT I seriously doubt they will put some cheap Fast-N-Furious exhaust on it. On top of that I doubt anyone would use it as a daily driver.
Personally, I'm glad Ford is taking off the gloves. Maybe it will light a fire under Chevrolet to really do a mid-engine Corvette with a screaming little V8 making oodles of rpm and hp, AWD, etc, etc!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Hot Rodders of the 80's screamed murder when the "first" fuel injected motor with computer control hit the market. They all said "horse power is dead 'cause we can't upgrade". Wow!!! How we must have lived in the dark ages back then..... This is how I see your views against forced induction, small displacement motors. No offense intended but your views are singularly sided with large blinders and no room for alternatives or different views.
If you think turbos and small displacement equals neon and "fart pipes". I invite you to join the new millennium as that junk died out in 1999. I haven't seen a civic with neon, stereo and loud exhaust in probably 8 years and I work with guys half my age everyday that have a lot of money to blow on stupid things.
Last time I checked, almost all these high output muscle cars of today (4's, 6's, 8's, 10's and 12's) are running some type of forced induction to get these crazy high numbers.
Go check out the XJ220 and tell me that is something you wouldn't own.
You are welcome to your opinion and in a lot of ways I see your point but as always, the future marches on and these machines are part of the future.
i have always been a big V8 guy. Actually my Corvette is the first small block muscle car i have owned.
Now back to the V6 Eco. I used to drive a 5.4 V8 Ford, crappy milage, ok power, crappy towing.
Then I went to Diesels, tons of power, lots of noise, turbos whistling but pretty expensive to own with regular maintenance and diesel prices until recently.
I had a F350 6.4 with normal go fast stuff cranking out 600Hp and 1K torque until the engine let go.
In came the Eco Boost. I was very skeptical, trying to decide if i wanted the 5.0 V8 or the 3.5 twin turbo.
Once I really started looking at the Eco its very similar design to Diesel engines. With the Direct injection, twin variable geometry turbos and very flat torque curve starting around 1800 and maxing at 2500 all the way to red line.
With this type of technology its no wonder Ford is making this the main line engine for most of the line up.
I too love the LS engines and the power they make but after driving Turbo trucks for the last 6 years I frankly wont drive one without. Plus when I'm not towing I get great milage for a 6k lb truck and when I want to tow it has TONS of low end power. Even compared to a diesels. It almost has the same power numbers as diesels just 6 years ago. That's impressive IDK who you are.

I know who I am, but IDC if you do.

Let's just see how it plays out.
