I'm trying to deal with some paint chips caused by road gravel on a '92 Black Rose coupe. GM dealers don't carry anything that far back and the color isn't listed by Duplicolor or any of the other auto parts house brands.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Any experience with PaintScratch.com, a division of Bio-Pac in Incline Village, Nev? Their website seems pretty authoritative and the cost of the paint, on balance, isn't too bad but if it isn't any good, it is a waste.
Also, any tips to keep in mind when doing the touch-up?
I have a hard to find color also, I got paint from paintscratch, the paint is fine no problems,I thought it was expensive but what can u do.GM also told me paint not avail, but they did come through with some in the end.Good Luck
91 Steel Blue Metalic is another hard to find touch up paint. GM discontinued the color some time ago. Believe it or not, MAD had the best match for it.
those little bottles of touch-up paint are nothing more than standard lacquer paint. if gm doesn't carry the color, just go to your local auto paint supplier, and have them mix a pint for you. also, get several quality artist brushes, sizes 0000, 000, 00, and 0, and some slow drying lacquer thinner. thin as required in a small bottle. fill in the stone chips with several layers of paint to build the thickness (this may take several days since lacquer will shrink as it dries). when done, LIGHTLY sand the area with 1500-2000 wet and dry finishing paper, and polish for a high gloss. be very careful color sanding - YOU DO NOT WANT TO GO THRU THE CLEARCOAT. polished lacquer will shine as well as BC/CC. no need to coat with clear. i do this all the time on my c5 and c4. the color match may not be dead on, but its close enough that from a standard viewing distance, its hard to detect.
I just bought a bottle of Black Rose from a dealer here in Minneapolis. They told me it was back-ordered at the factory and wouldn't be in until late August.
