Default Ugly AC Compressor

Hello everyone........I have a 1989 C4 w/ 128,000 miles that I have been working at dressing up the engine bay. Wanted to see if anyone has come up with any goods ideas of how to improve the appearance of the AC compressor.

Thanks..........

sorry, but that thing (ac compressor) is ugly. since it's painted black, your only option is a repaint - UNLESS, you remove the thing and strip-off the paint. trouble with removing it, you open the system, and you'll be dealing with a (freon) recharge.

I agree....I do refrigerator repair part time so I have the equipment, freon and know how.....but, if it ain't broke, don't mess with it. I know as soon as I take the compressor out and put back in, I will have leak issues......Murphy's Law.

Looking good under there. I really like the way you did your plug wires. I ordered (couldn't believe they still had them) factory wire looms from the dealer and used those but yours really look a lot nicer.

You could loosen the compressor, clean real good, mask off the areas that you don't want painted and paint it red to complement your runners and wires.

Or, remove and polish.

Did they come from the factory painted black in 89?

You might be able to use steel wool to remove the paint but it would be a lot of work. Unbolting it but leaving the hoses attached would help (maybe).

I used steel wool on the lines that seemed to help quite a bit.........
