Hey guys, I decided I will be replacing the stock radio in my 94' soon and Im not really familiar/educated with any of the top of the line brands and quality etc... Well I know the names but more so asking you guys opinions on quality of them etc.. Basically everything I should know.
I had an Alpine model CDE-141 unit installed in my 90 coupe. My rear speakers were bad, so they were also upgraded. I had the work done at an audio store that does a lot of Corvette installations. Cost was $500. I couldn't be happier with the quality of the unit and the installation. Everything has worked perfectly for the last year and a half. The Alpine unit then provided an additional storage space below the radio.
Give the folks at Cruchfield a call. They recommended a Pioneer double din for my 93. Great teck support. Sound is so much better than the Bose Gold, I stayed with the Bose speakers. Got the plug and play harness.

Thanks man, For some odd reason everytime I turn on my radio I get this receiving noise.. Sometimes it goes away sometimes it doesn't so most times I just turn it off.. Its like in the rear left speaker.

Yeah Im defiently looking into Crutchfield. I know you said you stayed with bose speakers, But what do you recommend for amps, and subs..
Speakers have the amps built in to each speaker on the Bose system. Check with Crutchfields they know what works for your Corvette. Tech support is great.
So I went in to Safe and Sound Mobile Electronics today to get an estimate on repalcing my 94 C4 Stock Audio system which came out to $2,600.
I told the guy I wanted good quality and clean bass nothing that drowns out my music.
The guy come up with this list:
Alpine INE-W940 (6.1' Touch screen, Nav, Bluetooth,USB) (Which they priced at $589)
Focal ISC-165 Front Speakers (Which they priced at $169.99)
Focal Integration ISC 690 Rear Speakers (Crutchfield priced at $199.99)
Alpine XD7005 (AMP) (Which they have priced at $569.99)
10' Alpine Sub (didn't get the price on) (Crutchfield has it listed for $299.99)

Do you guys think that Im getting overcharged?
Maybe it's just me but I would get a second opinion. Doesn't cost much
and you might come up with a better combo.
Yeah I guess Ill have to be patient I will go and check out a few other places before deciding.
I'm with Rocco - whatever's on sale at WalMart.
But seriously, I only listen to AM talk radio and podcasts. My music needs are not great. I got an iSimple in-antenna device to inject my iPod speaker jack into my existing Bose radio system and I'm happy with that concept. I just got the iSimple yesterday and haven't installed it yet, but it should be pretty fast and simple. Up to now I've been using a cassette adapter which is a pain.
$30 markup on the headunit. Attachment 47862771Attachment 47862772 The markups arent horrible but Id bet you could find a better deal. Never hurts to get more quotes!
What you need to decide is if you wamt all high end gear or not. You have all pretty high end stuff there. Unless you're an audiophile (and even then), you probably won't be able to tell the difference between your 2000$ setup and a $1000 setup.
If if I was you, I'd go with a less expensive amp, ditch the sub, and switch to some less expensive speakers and see how you like it. Worst case scenario, you add a sub.
Decent speakers on a decent amp will sound much better than what you're used to.
