Default Cold starting problem

My 96 (LT1) cranks a lot when cold starting (below freezing) and produces a lot of black smoke once started only after sitting for an extended period (week or longer without running). After the initial start it runs fine. Any thoughts?

Look at the fuel pump relay and associated wiring and connectors.

You might try connecting the orange and red wires of the oil pressure switch together. That will force the fuel pump to run and eliminate a few possible problems.

Thanks Cliff. It would seem that I am dumping too much fuel given the color and smell of the exhaust. I was thinking the coolant temp sensor although no codes are firing. I will look at the fuel pump relay but again it appears to be too much fuel not too little.

This appears to be a classic CTS, check your Coolant level.
