Computer question
This may be a simple question but I don't know the answer. I have an 89 Corvette automatic transmission car. if the computer controls the timing and the idle speed, why do you have to set them?

The computer (ECM -- Electronic/Engine Control Module) controls idle speed and ignition timing.
The ECM has to have a mechanical baseline to determine how to adjust various parameters. That's why you need to do a minimum idle adjustment and set the ignition timing.
