Got rear ended today. Luckily it wasn't too hard. New Tahoe with big fat soft bumper. I can't find any paint or body damage (yet), but it busted the license plate light and cracked a stop light lens. Can't seem to find a new replacement or part number anywhere for the plate light assy. Only found a E-bay used one!
Cracked the inner rt. side tail light lens and Two #15 torx screws take that right off. But the housing(inside reflector) seems loose on one side and I can't figure out how that thing is held in there. Any body got pictures or info on how to remove the reflector housing part of the tail light?
Well, I dropped the spare and took the holder off so I could get a better look up under there with a light. Could see busted plastic and glass everywhere from the backup light housings. Took off the license plate and removed the back up lights. They were smashed on the back side. After I had those out I could see how the stop light housings were held in there. At least one of those is broken too, but had to stop for the night. Couldn't see any damage from the outside, because it's all broken on the back side. At least it didn't hurt the rear bumper cover. Can't see any damage to it. Tiny crack in the clear coat in the corner of the license plate cove, but you really have to hunt for it. Not even sure if it happened today but I'll say yes just because I have an excuse now. Gathering part numbers and suppliers now.
Dingaling that ran into me was screwing with her damn phone. I can't prove it because I have no picture, but she had it in her hand when she got out.
Her insurance will be buying the parts. Just need to notify mine as to the damage with either pictures or an inspection.
You're a real sweetheart to let them off with a parts only bill, but unless you're a bodyman I'd recommend letting your Ins Co. handle this for you. That's part of what I pay for and I've neither the experience with the legalese nor the eye to see other damage revealed as the area is dismantled for repair. It is typical to have adjustments to ANY initial estimate.
In this state, we have the right to: 1) have the repair done by the ship of our choice, 2) have the car returned to the condition prior to the event, which may include a depreciation due to the accident.

No way I'd let them just pay for parts. Who at their insurance has the athority to agree to that?
You should be getting a big check from their insurance after an estimate. Not just for parts.
I would think that with broken backup lamp and tail light housings, then the mounting tabs and such are torn/ripped in the bumper cover....requiring a complete bumper cover replacement, plus paint.
Better look very closly at the bumper cover. It does not glue back together.

OH NO... You bet they're going to pay me for labor too. I'm going to let my insurance co. give me an estimate on this for parts AND labor according to their book. I just don't know who I'm going to tell them will be my "shop" of choice yet. There are several Corvette specialty builders and restoration shops in my club that I'm going to call on for the legalization of the repair that I'll probably do myself.
No mouth breathing knuckle draggin' body-shop doofus is gonna get the keys to my LT4!

Do a search for Corvette Salvage yards. I like to use www.vette2vette.com
I was once told that rear body parts are easier to come by as most Vette damage is done to the front end.
