I'm thinking about vinyl wrapping my car instead of painting it. The clear coat is almost gone from the hood, and most of the front bumper.
Does anyone have any recommendations for removing the lose paint?
What do you think would be a good method to measure how much material would be needed?
Yes I know there is a paint and body section on the forums, but with how much of the forum other then the C4 section acts towards C4s I wont ask there.
Good idea, but is matte the only finish? The price seems to be about the same if my estimate for amount of vinyl needed is correct. I found a 5'x30' piece of 3M 1080 G344 Liquid Copper for about $310. If a 5'x20' would work it would be about $100 less.
No reason why a C4 can't have a wrap just like any of today's cars. Try calling Corvettes of Auburn in Auburn WA for an estimate or a recomendation of who could give an estimate.
One of the C5 guys did a nice how to thread about 3 years ago, I think. Did the C5 his self and it came out nice. I do remember he said that it takes 3 guys to do it. Sort of hard to lay out the vinyl with less. Anyway, if you search C5, tech or general you should find it. Probably a bunch of you tube videos if you search there.
Ya I saw the thread in the C5 section. I have done a little looking into the plasti dip, and it looks decent. I think it may be easier for me to do. From what I read unless I need more then two gallons I don't think it will cost more then $2-300.

Watch both Eastwood how to videos for their product. Interesting. I saw where the guy who won last year's Riddler award used their clear product to protect his rear fenders from "burnout" rubber.
Now, granted, I don't know how badly the PO had done on application, but I DO know it wasn't a simple matter of peeling the stuff off. I had hours and HOURS of scrubbing with remover, hours of polishing and cleaning. The second shot still has the PlastiDip on the front bumper, you can see how dull it is. And likely you can put clearcoat on it too, but by the time you put a coat or two of plastidip AND a couple coats of clear .. how much are you really saving...
I will say you can hide some pretty heinous paint and blemishes with it.
I did not get a picture of the hood with the current paint today. If everything goes to plan I aim to get started next month some time. The plasti dip looks better for me, and already having a decent air compressor is a bonus here.
