Default C4.5?

Should '91's to '96's be referred to as C4.5's?

Seems like when I talk to people about C4's we are always saying, "earlier ones vs later ones" or "the squarer ones vs the rounder ones" or "L98 vs LT1/LT4", etc.

Seems like it would be easier to refer to them as C4's and C4.5's.

I think it is a good idea so I'm going to start calling them that and eventually it will catch on!

Default where do you draw the line...

But where do you draw the line. Is it when the interior changed? ('90) Or when the body style changed? ('91) Or when the engine changed from L98 to LT1? ('92)

OK I'll play......

1984 = C4

1985 = C4.1 - L98 engine introduced.

1986 = C4.2 - First convertible since 1975, third brake light, antilock brakes, electronic climate control, and key-code anti-theft system.

1989 = C4.3 - ZF 6-speed manual replaces Doug Nash 4+3.

1990 = C4.4 - ZR-1 is introduced with DOHC LT5 engine. Interior redesigned to incorporate drivers-side air bag.

1991 = C4.5 - Restyled exterior

1992 = C4.6 - LT1 engine replaces the L98 - traction control standard

1994 = C4.7 - New interior including passenger airbag. LT1 receives mass air flow sequential fuel injection.

1995 = C4.8 - Minor exterior restyling

1996 = C4.9 - Optional LT4 engine with 330 hp (246 kW). Collectors Edition and Grand Sport special editions. First year with OBD II diagnostics.

So C4.5 would be 1991 and newer.

In my opinion a C4 is all corvettes made between 1984 to 1996. Cars evolve during the production series as problems are fixed and new technology is developed. Some people will always have that mentality of mine is better than yours but in the end a C4 is a C4. Just like a corvette is a corvette no matter the year.

I like this idea! My '84 is the ONLY genuine C4!

Interesting idea, but C4 + Year or engine type seems to still be the least confusing description.
C4's really brought a lot of technology and changes throughout the years. Don't know why they don't receive more respect among the generations.

Yeah, I'm sticking to early and late as my description. The middle years get cloudy (late 80's early 90's) but "early" and "late" still work if you're talking about a particular feature, i.e. body, wheels, engine, interior, etc.

What helps me when trying to help someone is early vs late interior OR l98 vs lt1. But as mentioned it all depends on what they are asking about.

The entire car except the motor and trans early vs late.

Motor and trans related l98 vs lt1.

Its a nightmare when trying to search for a symptom or info on interior stuff here since you never know what a threads going to have in it till you go inside the thread and see what year it is.
