If the car is modified/customized, go with the white. If it's pretty much stock, go with the black. I prefer a stock look since these cars were very cool straight off the assembly line. My $0.02
Obviously it's your choice... why not switch back & forth to suit your mood?
Jon, Either shift know looks OK. When did you buy another C4? If I remember correctly, you had a black one for a while that you sold. Didn't you buy a C5?

Hey there, nice to converse with you again. I did buy a 2004 C5 after I sold the ultra-rare all black 40th Anniversary car. I drove it for a couple of years, but using it as a daily driver became too much for my knees so I traded it in on a new Charger. About this time last year one of my dealer contacts called about a 1994 Vette he took in that he was going to auction so I looked it over. The car has some miles, about 120K of them to be exact but is absolutely pristine with all the right maintenance records so he sold it to me cheap, $6,000.
I put it in the garage and never really did much with it last year, thought I would get it out this year and have some fun with it. The only thing that needed changing was the shift console due to the normal wear and tear of the rubberized finish. while I had it out I put in a new shifter as the old one felt loose. Now it's ready for the local show series, should be fun. This car is literally spotless.

The red boot does not go with the black interior.
I have a large white Hurst **** in my own C4, so I am biased....but, like suicidejockey, I think white gives a nice old skool touch.
And it feels so much better than the stock ****. But white doesn't go with the red boot....
I think I'll stay old skool on this one for a while. The problem with using this shift **** with the longer factory shifter is that it exposes a large amount of thread. For that reason I had to make something to cover it yet still allow the reverse ring to work. I fashioned some tubing to the right size and bonded it to the lock nut, worked out OK.
FYI, I know the red boot doesn't match, but when you look at it against the torch red paint, it draws attention to the interior and ties in the red paint. Actually looks pretty good.
