Hey I sure yall have been asked this before, I have a 1996 targa top and I have a vibration with the top out, I have seen a few threads that say I need a x brace, corvette central seen to have discontinued them and I haven't been able to find a used convertible one yet, I have seen the brace that goes from front to back, that vette2vette sells 86 /96 c4 no flex frame stiffener bar system has anyone had any success with that one or should I hold out for a x brace?
I've driven a 'VErt (w/it's Xbrace) and SUBJECTIVELY, it had as much shake and shudder as my '92 with it's roof off....so IMO, the X brace doesn't do much. Based on that experience, I wouldn't buy an X-brace.
The Vette2vette rails have very positive reviews. No one seems to know exactly WHY they work, but they seem to work.

Well I'm a bit late on this but for what it's worth I own both an 88 Z51 coupe and a 93 Vert and I will say that with the vert is much stiffer than the coupe (X-Brace installed versus targa top installed). I also always have to ask people how exactly they are measuring 'flex"? Just my .02
Outside of stripping the car to the bare frame, bolting three points to a concrete floor and measuring lbs/degree of twist, that is about the only way I know how to measure it.
You're claiming that you're vert, top off is stiffer than your coupe, top on?? That would be about the first time I've ever heard or seen any such thing.
Well, here it is the update on my top off vibration, did my front end stop bouncing “no”. But there still is a bounce; the bounce is not as harsh. It seems to smoother then it was, tires balanced trued nothing wrong with the tires or the wheels. But the vette2vette did correct a few problems that I didn’t know I had like, Doors, hood opening and latching easier, and taking the top in and out, But let me tell you what it did do, with the top in, first of all I’m not a professional race car driver and haven’t even been behind the wheel of one, just remember this is my first corvette, and I have nothing to compare it to, except maybe a test drive from time to time at the dealer. but this is how the a corvette should drive” this is nice” turns are crisp, it holds itself in the road, burn outs are controllable, this is the way I have dreamed a corvette should drive. Jason and I have been talking, and maybe we have come up with a solution. Thanks to Jason at vette2vette and to all that has helped. i wished the pictures turned out better , but maybe you get the idea

Gordon Killebrew who is in the NCM Hall of Fame gave this design idea to Jason of Vette2Vette. He considered Jason to be the son he never had.
Here are the bars on my 91. They are worth the money and make the car feel like new again.
