Using a floor jack at the manufacture's suggested jacking points (the rocker flanges) is difficult. The flange of fiberglass right there makes me nervous. Where else can I safely put a floor jack??
I went through the same thing a few weeks ago. The plastic lower body flange piece just pushes up out of the way. I had a tripled over diaper on top of the jack to protect it from scratching. If you check the archives you'll see some photos in a thread I started. Hard part was figuring out where to put the jack stands. I never did figure that out. We ordered a lift instead. :D
I lift everything by placing the jack saddle on a flat surface of a suspension component nearest the point that is bearing the load normally (as close to the steering knuckle or hub-carrier as possible). Naturally if you need to unload the suspension this won't work, but lifting by the bodywork always gives me the creeps, I'll try to find suitable structure nearby. Never had a mishap, don't plan to anytime soon.
