Re: Digital Dash Cluster & Steering Wheel Column Problems (88VetteLT1)
Cluster black outs may be caused by an unsoldered pin on the rear circuit board (toward front of car). There is a single row of pins on the rear board that plugs into a socket on the front board and the pin closest to the center of the board carries the lamp current. An age relaxed spring on the socket causes connection resistance and the lamp current causes heat which eventually unsolders the pin on the rear board. A permanent fix is to solder a short insulated piece of hookup wire from the rear of the rear board to the front of the front board to bypass the pin/socket.
