Power steering problems

I took my son for a ride the other day and everything was fine. I came home and parked the car while I cleaned the garage. When I went to back it in the garage the steering was making that sound when your low on power steering fluid. I checked the fluid and it did have fuid but it was a light brown colour like a coffee with creamer in it. I also had a small puddle of fluid on the ground under the engine. Im sure I can find the leak when I get a chance today to look but whats up with the colour of the fluid and why the humming when turning the steering wheel.

Symptoms suggest pump replacement/rebuild.

Thanks for the links, they are very helpful. Hopefully the rain stops tomorrow so I can look at it better and see where the leak may be coming from. Thanks for you help and input.
